"Type" is not translated into Korean.
(I suggest "종류" - without quotation marks)

Also, these are my suggestions:
(without quotation marks when copying and pasting my Korean text please)

  • Natural → "자연스러운"
  • Literal → "문자 그대로"
  • Formality → "격식 여부"
  • Formal → "격식"
  • Informal → "비격식"
  • Addressee → "청자"

Footer:

  • Changelog → "변경 기록"
  • Kagi. Humanize the Web. → "Kagi. 인간다운 웹을 만듭니다."

Swag is now translated into "goods" in Korean (like Japanese, as I pointed out before), but I think it's acceptable.

I'll post more comments if I find any weird parts - Thanks.

    Two ideas:
DeepL has a popover dictionary for individual words that shows some useful info about a word, especially for those learning languages and using Kagi to help with that.

Second and somewhat similar: If possible it would also be useful to highlight a word on the source text, and have the corresponding translated word/phrase also highlighted. For example:
    Here I have фотография highlighted:

The corresponding translated word photo should then be highlighted:

Not sure if this is possible, but if it is it would be appreciated!

frin I see that some people are posting dark themed screenshots, so what am I missing, is it only reading the browser setting?

It detects your browser's theme - if your browser is dark, the page switches to dark too. Still, I think a manual theme switch would be useful.

I noticed that it's not possible to easily copy an alternative translation to the clipboard. It would be cool to have the alternative replace the original translation when I click on it.

frin Romanization should now be fully fixed, thanks 🙂
Alternatives translations like the one you sent (translation with just the romanization/kanji reading added) should also be fixed, please let us know if they ever show up again.

As for the dark theme, it indeed works by detecting your browsers settings currently. Soon it will sync with your Kagi Search theme.

Hanbyeol Thanks! I have updated the localization with your suggestions.

RoxyRoxyRoxy These are both good ideas, thanks.

nichu42 Done 🙂 (on click, it automatically goes into your clipboard)

It looks like the AI doesn't understand abbreviations.

Could you also correct the Korean words at the top of the website translator? Thank you.

          • Trans. / Translated → "번역됨" instead of "트랜스"
          • Orig. / Original → "원본" instead of "원래"

Edit - The current translation of "Both" is fine; no need to edit it.

I see that "Slovenian" is on the list twice. The first one has language code "ls" which is wrong. The correct one is "sl". The "ls" is an invalid ISO language code, it does not exist.

              Feature suggestion:
keep a dictionary in localstorage that remembers certain translations and prioritizes them, deepl does this quite nicely.

              Hanbyeol Thanks! Done.
frin Removed the duplicate, thanks 🙂

RoxyRoxyRoxy We have just released Text Alignment. Now, when you hover over the original text, the corresponding translation in the output box will be highlighted automatically. If you’re logged in as a Kagi Subscriber and your translation/source text is under 150 characters, the feature will activate a few seconds after your translation is complete. Thanks for the idea!

Temporarily pulled back so we can polish this further.

Giorgio Sweet but seems a little buggy, at least on the sample I tried.

В город приходит вечер should just correspond to Evening comes to the city

Again here, Я зажигаю свечи should just correspond to I light the candles

The second line doesn't activate Text Alignment at all.

There's a few bugs with editing too, once Word Insights is finished loading I'm incapable of editing the text (incl. deleting it) and the page must be reloaded. On longer text (that doesn't trigger Word Insights) sometimes clicking and dragging on the source text seems to treat it as an image/object? It doesn't highlight and instead drags sections of the text.

Finally very minor nitpick but I feel like the Text Alignment highlight color doesn't quite have enough contrast against the grey background, it's kinda hard to see depending on the lighting conditions.

Is there a token parameter? With regular kagi search I'm able to create an OpenSearch engine that works in private browsing (incognito) mode, by including my API token in the URL search params. It's great for one-off search engines in firefox. I also have an OpenSearch engine for Google Translate.

But when I try to do that for Kagi Translate, it's a little buggy in private browsing mode. First, red text appears saying "An error occurred during translation," and a Cloudflare widget appears temporarily that says "Verifying." And it doesn't translate my query until I hit "translate" button.

If, before using Kagi Translate in that private browsing window, I first use regular Kagi Search with my engine (which passes it my API token), everything works fine, and it knows who I am, and remembers my preferences. But it won't let me pass the token directly to Kagi Translate, so basically I have to use regular Kagi Search in that window before I can use Kagi Translate.

Not the end of the world, but it would be good to implement a token parameter. Maybe it already exists and it just has a different name. Nonetheless, are the search parameters documented anywhere? I would like to make sure my OpenSearch engine is exhaustive.

This would allow us to open Kagi Translate with a URL like https://translate.kagi.com/?token={api_token}&text=%s and have it log us in automatically, like Kagi Search does. Then it works just as well in private browsing/incognito mode.

Thank you. The translate widget is awesome btw. Much richer than Google Translate, in this respect. Word insights and the overall ML use are impressive. I love the extra options like translation style, context, etc. I hope these all get search parameters, and be documented so we can use them in automations, like one-off search engines. Rather than having to manually click each time (if for example we want to get formal translations by default).

aminomancer You are absolutetly correct. Not just the session token support but also recently announced Privacy Pass support across all services. This is one of those things that is incredibly tedious and time consuming to do but does contribute to the overall perception of the quality and seriousness of the service.

Would it be possible to add in OCR translation? Ex. I have an image with Russian text -> upload it to Kagi translate -> image is OCR'd and Russian text is output and translated? Would love this feature as of now I have to either use my phone or upload the image to another site, often with rate limits or dubious privacy.

Romanization for Russian, Ukrainian, and Greek: The transliterations (romanization) for these languages are shown in Cyrillic/Greek alphabet, respectively. I’m not sure if this is intended but in Google Translate for example, they are always transliterated into Latin letters (when the overall website language is set to English).

TTS is muted when phone is in silent mode: On iOS Safari, if the system is set to silent mode, and not connected to a headphone, the speak text is always muted despite media volume being not set to 0. Again I’m not sure if this is the intended behavior, but usually websites and apps (including most translation apps) that play media seem to only follow the media volume, not the silent mode switch.

I saw no reply or acknowledgement to my post, so I double-checked and I think the URL might have been wrong in there. Basically trying to translate "www.cna.com.tw" into English, and it (still) just gives a blank white page.
                        Thanks!

Unfortunately, Kagi Translate doesn't currently have the ability to translate web pages that contain JavaScript, so it may take some time.
I understand your frustration - There are too many websites using JavaScript these days.

In the translation results on the webpage, can you consider adding download and sharing functions?

Hi, I'm really enjoying Kagi Translate! I'm running into an issue though. I'm struggling to translate the English word "rapport" into Simplified Chinese. In English, the word means "a relationship of mutual understanding or trust and agreement between people". However, Kagi Translate keeps trying to translate it as "report" instead.

I've tried adding "not report" as context, but that didn't help.
