What happened?

Summarizer failed to process a properly formed shortened YouTube video link of what was originally a live event.

How did it happen?

I typed !sum https://youtu.be/esCSpbDPJik in Safari (with the Kagi extension installed) and got a "No transcript could be found" error

ALSO:

I did the same by typing in !sum https://youtu.be/ZUPJ1ZnIZvE and got the same results.

What are the steps to replicate the issue?

  1. Click on the following link:

https://kagi.com/summarizer/index.html?target_language=&summary=takeaway&url=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FesCSpbDPJik%3Ft%3D5

OR

https://kagi.com/summarizer/index.html?target_language=&summary=takeaway&url=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FZUPJ1ZnIZvE

  1. Submit the query

  2. Wait for the "No Transcript" error message (should be about 30-60s)

What did you expect to happen?

I expected the full summarizer experience to work correctly: Key Moments, Summary, and "Discuss Further"

Describe the desired functionality.

I just did.

If I’m not mistaken Summarizer uses the YouTube transcript feature to summarize; reading arbitrary raw video and audio is still a ways away. It seems in this case there simply isn’t a transcript and so Summarizer can’t do anything with that vid. I don’t know how exactly YouTube does transcriptions, you might be able to wait a bit and they’ll have generated one.

@RoxyRoxyRoxy there actually are transcripts for both video documents, which is why this bug is so mysterious. I've tried this issue at different times and with different URLs and with different timestamps and still get the Summarizer equivalent of a 404.

achilles Oh my bad, I went and looked and didn’t see it, guess that’s what Google says I get for using mobile web 😅
        That is weird indeed!
