Can we get support for text direction, eg "rtl" for languages that use that?
Kagi Translate Feedback
Awesome addition to the lineup! Congrats on the launch!
I'm learning German right now, and this would be a great tool to switch my usual media to German, so that more of my reading is done in German. So having it as a widget / button in the search results to go to the translated pages directly would be a killer feature.
Additionally, do you intend to provide an API for this? Depending on the cost, I'd love to integrate it with my RSS readers somehow.
Translation feature is very nice. I would like to suggest that Kagi allows users to translate without having to click the translate button and allow reverse translation to be done automatically when the users click the switch language sign in the middle. I use Google Translate everyday despite the lower quality translation than DeepL because of the seamless experience when translating a few sentences. The reverse translation when switching back and forth also helps with spell check and word suggestions when writing something in a language you are not familiar with.
If it's not possible, then in the meantime, I would like to suggest a dedicated button for reverse language and translate. Right now, to do that, I have to click the reverse language button, copy text, then click the translate button. I would like this to be done automatically, or done with one simple keyboard shortcut, for example tab.
These two small things make a lot of quality-of-life difference when you use he translation function hundred times every single day.
I just saw that there is a dedicated thread for Translation. Mods, feel free to merge this post to the main thread if you see fit.
Have you guys thought about adding translation to the extension? While the bookmarklet works great, I think the extension just translating the web page would be more seamless. I was thinking an experience similar to those of most major browsers that offer this feature, like Chrome and Firefox based on the browser's language with the option to auto-translate.

I would like to see a translation addon as well. I have been using Simple Translate addon and it works very well. If Kagi translation has its own add on or could be linked to existing addons, that would be great. Sometimes, I just want to highlight a sentence or a paragraph on a website to translate. Small popup works best in this case.
+1 for an API: to make it possible to use Kagi Translate instead of DeepL for things like LaunchBar extensions

I tried translating the navy seal copypasta to Russian and got a bug.
This part:
... Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to ...
Is being translated as
... Я не только extensively trained в рукопашном бою, но у меня есть доступ ...
As you can see, the words "extensively trained" are not being translated.
It also just completely removed every single curse word that's present in the original text

I'm unable login. If I open translate.kagi.com I see the "Login" button up right and the captcha above the translate button although I'm already logged in. If I try to login I'm asked for username and password but not for 2FA Code. Then I'm redirected to kagi.com (logged in). If I open translate.kagi.com again im still not logged in.
I'm using Win10 / Win11 / Android with latest Firefox and Kagi extension. All having the same problem.
Edit:
I'm also randomly seeing a simple black on white "Rate exceeded." message when opening translate.kagi.com. Refreshing the page helps.

One of the reasons of subscribing to Kagi was ethics. We have a big climate problem. Temperatures are rising, floods, heat waves. The last thing we need is introducing technology that we don't really need (AI / LLM) and which deeply hurts the environment. The energy consumption of Google alone has risen with 69% in just one year, because of AI.
Very disappointed that Kagi is more and more going into the AI hype.
In comparison: Vivaldi is using Lingvanex which runs on their own server. It's working fine. Maybe not a perfect translation, but more than ok. Humanity will survive with it.
Vlad this will finally replace my gtr
search shorthand to throw whatever I want to see translated to Google Translate. I'm so thankful for Kagi to exist!

marc_vb considering that there's sufficient doubt to be cast upon the mainstream narrative of climate change, I'm highly sceptical of whatever the mainstream media attempts to make us all believe into. I fell for it a long and time as well and even went on marches by Fridays for Future and all that. (I'm not going to start a debate on climate change here, but I can't make my point without at least mentioning that the alleged consensus is aligned with weird technocrat oligarchs.)
Kagi doing more AI stuff will not impact temperatures anywhere, except in the data center racks where the GPUs are doing their thing.
I just tried an automatic translation from English to Swedish and discovered a few errors that I've logged in a Mastodon post. The errors:
- While my British English uses single quotation marks ('), Swedish always applies double quotation marks (").
- An erroneous translation of 'curfew at night' to 'nattlig utegångsförbud', which is a grammatical error.
- There's also traces of spoken-language translation, the type that shouldn't occur in written-language translation; the word 'så' shouldn't, in my opinion, occur in written Swedish, unless a person is quoted. This is a style thing though, dependent on how you want to translate.
permafrosticvm climate change is definitely a real thing.... And it's definitely human caused.
There's enough evidence to prove that....

marc_vb honestly I wouldn't mind having a 'Kagi Translate Lite' or 'kagi translate eco' that uses that.
What I'm actually going in and copying a piece of text that I want to translate, usually I want that to be as good as possible.
But if I'm just translating a website just to get a context of what it's about. I wouldn't mind using a less energy intensive method.
It's usually when I'm translating to something that I'm going to send to someone that I really wanted to make sure that it's good. If it's just translating to one of my languages, I don't mind the translation being lower quality

permafrosticvm upon the mainstream narrative of climate change
Right (...). Ignore scientists. Believe deniers.
You know that data centers needs energy?

Input and output of the macron diacritic "◌̄" in Latin would be nice to have
e.g.
es = you are
ēs = you eat
pīrāta → Nominative
pīrātā → Ablative
I welcome the feature and think it's a really good idea.
However, I'd like an extension to go with it so I can easily select text, right click and hit "Translate with Kagi" similar to how Google translation works on Chrome, instead of translating the whole page.
The !translate bang could now forward to Kagi translate instead of Google Translate? For google translate we could add !gtranslate. Bangs are open source, but I thought it would be more interesting to discuss this here
