Giorgio I noticed that the latest Best mode's translation speed only seems to be a few seconds slower than Standard mode. Will such a fast speed affect the translation quality?(After all, it used to take dozens of seconds)

The solution to our problems with the consequences, whatever they may actually be, of power generation is not to avoid consuming energy, it's to produce it better.

There is no other way to make this quality of general purpose automatic translation than LLMs and similar technology; training and employing tens of millions of domain-trained translators is a lot less ‘carbon efficient’ than machine translation.

If you don't want to use these features, nobody is forcing you.

Crotaro ouch, yep we can't really bypass the paywall - should be possible to translate articles behind one with the upcoming browser extension.
bq In your case, sv->en should flip around if you write anything in English in the input section - the logic behind being that we assume you want to translate to en->sv instead. Improved this now, but if it still happens you can now also disable it in the settings (translation tab).

I have gotten mixed results with the STT when testing it by reading from an extract.

It's supposed to read "All life is entangled in some way"

Instead it got caught up with the first word.

trying to read the Golem article that was linked in the recent Kagi Changelog using Kagi Translate and it just won't work. The cookie popup only gives me an error message after a long while of loading

I'm seeing what I think is intended as a feature(?) where if i set the languages to sv->en, sometimes the languages automatically flip around when typing in inputs.
This has never actually helped me, and has only led to me having to manually flip it around again after I notice it changing.

Giorgio The issue I had was that the switch was too aggressive and got stuck on the wrong language if it detected the wrong one before the full text was written.
It seems to work better now (but I also haven't translated that much since then), thanks!

When you translate certain Irish phrases, it gets it wrong in the output but will get it right under the input.

For example, "Ithim mo lón" is rightfully depicted as "I eat my lunch" under the input section, and in the output it will say "eat your fill" which is wrong. Additonally having it as "ithim lón" it'll have it as "I'm alone" and not "I eat lunch".

arx the definition is not automatically used as the context for translation, so it can unfortunately lead to situations like these. We'll try to improve our Irish translations in standard mode 🙂

When I run the translation in best mode, it outputs an error message like this.

CTAO seems like the translator has just decided to remove the line break there, can you consistently reproduce with that language pair?
Gaeilgeoir the dictionary is now async, so the time to translate a single word is the shortest it can get unless - are you using best mode?

Over the past few weeks, we've made many tweaks to improve accessibility of our settings pages for keyboard users, screen reader users, and users who have JavaScript disabled.

Advanced control for Bangs via Regex

We've added an optional "Regex" field to Custom Bangs for more precise control. Instead of $1 always being the first word and $2 the second, you can now define exactly how your query is split to create more powerful shortcuts.

For example, to create a custom translator for a query like !tr spanish live long and prosper, you can now separate the language from the text. In your Custom Bang settings, you would use:

Template: https://translate.kagi.com/?to=$1&text=$2
Regex: (\w+)\s+(.*)

This pattern tells the Bang to use the first word for $1 and the entire rest of the query for $2. If you leave the Regex field blank, your Bangs will continue to work as they always have. We're excited to see what you build with this

@Giorgio When To CN, line breaks appear incorrectly. This does not happen when to JP/EN (only JP/EN have been tested).

It would be nice if the amount of time spend on translating single words or small phrases (used like a dictionary, thesaurus and/or etymological dictionary) could be decreased.

This could be done exclusively for when the input has one or two words, which might not require as much "thinking time" by the model.

I can provide examples if that helps.
