Kagi Translate's handling of Switzerland in German needs some work.
There are two issues:
- The language Kagi supports for German in Switzerland is mislabeled.
- Kagi doesn't support the dominant form of written German in Switzerland
Some quick background: The German-speaking parts of Switzerland have two kinds of German. In informal and spoken contexts, the dominant language is Swiss German. In formal and written contexts, the dominant language is High German with some Switzerland-specific vocabulary sprinked in.
To be clear and explicit, these are two different languages. High German is the language spoken in Germany and when Germans and Swiss use it, they can understand each other about as well as Australians and Americans. Swiss German is an entirely different language. A German speaker can understand a Swiss German speaker about as well as an English speaker can understand a French speaker.
Kagi supports Swiss German. This is really cool except it's labelled as "German (Switzerland)", which is misleading, as it indicates High German. This should be fixed.
Kagi doesn't support Swiss High German. This is an oversight in my opinion, as Swiss High German is the dominant written language in German-speaking Switzerland, if not the entire country.
