What does your feature entail? What is it for? How will it affect existing workflows or user experience?
I think it would be really cool to type in a search and then switch to assistant to rerun the search through any of the assistant modes without having to type the search again. It would also be nice to do this and maybe switch from research to chat or code without having to type the same query to see what the output would be with Assistant vs search and any of the different models and built in prompts.

What are the exact ways that you see a user using your proposed feature? Please go into as much detail as possible, and provide examples of how other browsers/apps implement this feature, if applicable. If your feature suggestion adds on to an existing feature, how would it work into it to extend its usefulness?
Type in a search, then click on the brain and have the search go through the AI model without having to retype it. Being able to seamlessly switch between Assistant and search with the same query. Also being able to run the same query through different assistant modes.

Will let others chime in, I personally do not prefer this and like to use Assistant as a clean slate switch.

Would be nice if the search mode query would carryover and execute in the assistant mode and vice versa. Currently when you switch modes, whatever you search for pretty much disappears.

@Vlad I think it would definitely be worthwhile to add this as an option in settings somehow if you think users tend to use it as I do. I've actually consistently been annoyed with the feature as I tend to search first and then switch my query over to assistant mode to talk about my query only to have my query blasted away.

Another potential solution would be to add a "discuss" button of some sort alongside or within quick answer. So you can keep the assistant mode with the default behavior of clearing the query when clicked on. But if a user uses the quick answer and then clicks on something that says "discuss" after that the query can be preserved but the user is now in assistant mode.

dragon I do the same thing. Many times I start with a search and then want to use research mode.

I am posting this as a bug because I could swear it used to work this way.

Say, I am querying Kagi for something:

But I am overwhelmed by the results, or maybe I just want to chat about this concept. I would expect that clicking on the brain would initiate a chat with the current input text.

What happens instead, is a fresh chat:

I would expect a chat to start with the input text:

swap This is a duplicate of another bug report, can you locate it so that I can merge the two?

On kagi.com, whatever you enter into the search bar is retained when switching modes. But on kagi.com/search and kagi.com/assistant the input is cleared.

I'd like the input into the search bar contents to be retained. It is a lot quicker to clear it, than to type in the query again.

Not sure this should be classified as a bug or feature, but feels slightly more like a bug to me.

Hi everyone, this was launched recently as part of a series of enhancements aimed at improving the Assistant's user experience.
