Kagi remembers the region filter settings from previous sessions (which is desirable) but this isn't shown by default. The region filter status is hidden until the user clicks the Toggle Filters icon.

Use case: I'm in Australia and frequently swap between region restricted and international filters. When I start a new search session I may not remember that my previous search was region restricted, and this won't be obvious from the results. I would like to be reminded that my search was filtered.

My preferred solution would be to reveal the filter options on the results page when a search was region restricted, even if the user didn't click Toggle Features (similar to DDG behaviour). But any kind of visual reminder that the search was filtered would be helpful.

riddley Roger, makes sense. Would perhaps a better solution be to simply remember the filter option between sessions - so if you choose to have it open it is always there until closed?

I think that would be a better behaviour on its own merits. Personally I like having the filters always shown (as in the DDG interface) so I would like to have the option to do that.

I don't think it completely solves the original problem because it's still possible for the user to get in a situation where they are viewing filtered results but they have forgotten about the filter. It feels like a risk to me because you could end up with grumpy customers who don't realise why they are getting limited results and blame Kagi.

riddley Are you proposing saving filters state plus having filters open all the time if region is set? I could imagine someone being unhappy about inability to close filters.

I think we are now discussing two different feature requests

1: Save filter visibility state between sessions

I note that Kagi currently matches Google behaviour (which I don't like) while DDG always shows filters with no option to hide them (which I personally prefer). Saving visibility state seems like the best of both worlds.

2: A simple visual reminder for forgetful users that they have filters applied.

I'm not a designer but two possibilities that occur to me:

        • add a message to the text status above the results, like Results in 0.65s. Search filters are active. Info.
        • a visual highlight on the Toggle Filters icon, say a yellow background for the icon

riddley What is to be considered the non-default state of region filter?

Vlad I would consider International results to be the default. But I'm in Australia, a small English speaking country, so I don't know how users in large non-English speaking countries would feel...
