As an alternative to paying by credit card, kagi offers a pre-paid credit option that can be refilled manually. However, there are some flaws to this approach.
Able to send money, but it does not pay the bill
If credit runs out for any reason and a bill fails to be paid, refilling your credit does not work. You can pay Kagi as much as you like, but it will just pile up in your credit with your bill unpaid. You have to reach out to support over email or discord to have a kagi employee manually transfer the funds for you.
Insecure payments
More recently, the payment system broke. Payment apps are secured in that they require their interface to be loaded in a seperate window/popup/tab. This prevents a host website from accessing your bank details.
Since recently (the last several times I tried) Kagi has presented me with a popup, but then embedded the payment providers' ui embedded into their website.
Paypal sents metadata along with their responses to your pc requesting the payment form, letting your computer know "don't use this if it isn't in a secure frame". And my web browser, as it should, tells me "This content is blocked, contact the site's administrator".
Fix the popup, please.
My situation
Kagi has my money but is unable to allow me to pay the next 82 cents. I would really like to continue using Kagi. When it comes to search, Kagi is miles ahead of the competition.
