Hello, I haven't yet debugged this properly myself, but wanted to send feedback about it, in case it's something really easy:

Kagi Translate stopped working on Safari, maybe a couple weeks ago. Before that, it worked fine. It still works fine on Chrome. On Safari, it will only translate when the page loads, then never do anything again. The UI elements also stop responding to clicks. I end up typing the thing to translate and refreshing the page, or just opening Chrome. This has been extra frustrating as I do think Kagi Translate is the best translation service right now.

Edit: Never mind, it was the history being full indeed. Would still appreciate if this failure case was handled.

Lu9 Hi! As noted in our documentation, Kagi Translate uses LLM models. All machine translators (including Google Translate) can make mistakes - we don't claim perfect translations and hope no one expects that. For custom languages, we've added a warning in the dropdown indicating this use case has limited support.

The quality of the translations is generally better than Google/DeepL but I wish they were integrated with the Kagi browser extension so you don't need to open another tab to translate pieces of text. I'm still using Simple Translate browser extension all the time because it's way more convenient even though the translations are not as good.

If I choose “document” and “from Italian” and “to English” and then drop a 1.4MB PDF in Italian, it churns for some ten or fifteen seconds, and then gives me a new 1.4MB PDF file to download with “_en” added to its filename. So far so good.

But when I look at the resulting document, it looks absolutely identical to the source. Still in Italian.

There's a bug in Kagi Translate where the definitions and etymology for the text that's being translated is generated and then disappears.

I tested this on Firefox with a new browser profile and no extensions.

For the past few days in Best Mode, long translations get cut off if they contain sexual expressions.
It's a problem because it won't re-translate even if I reload the page.
I'd appreciate it if you could fix this.

Will there be a seperate Kagi translate app? Opening up the web to translate something is a bit annoying.

I note that if I type a phrase in Toki Pona into Translate, it frequently identifies it as Tok Pisin. The translations are usually of mixed quality (which is not uncommon for LLMs and Toki Pona with any model I've tested) but are clearly interpreting the input text as Toki Pona (which is only very tenuously related to Tok Pisin). I wonder if there are any other similar "LLM false friends" like this. Occasionally it detects "toki" or "tok", either of which are more sensible than detecting Tok Pisin.

Example:
LHS pane detected Samoan and then guessed Tok Pisin. The text about the Samoan guess didn't update. The right-hand side has mostly-sensible interpretations of Toki Pona (this is an imperative statement, though the translation failing is unsurprising). Contrast the English -> Tok Pisin machine translation of "Give me some bread." to " Givim mi sampela bret." These languages are not mutually intelligible.

(I can give other sample sentences if you need 'em for whatever reason.)

Hello. The "Light" in Proofread Correction Level is incorrectly translated to Korean as 빛 (meaning light like sunlight).

I suggest translating it into Korean as 간략(Light), 표준(Standard), 상세(Comprehensive) as proposed by Kagi Translate.
I wrote Menus About Grammar Checking (Not Light Like Sunlight) in the context field.

In Best Mode, when translating long texts from Korean to Japanese, sentences containing words like “괜히”, “괜한”, or “섣불리” often fail to translate.
Also, when translating from Korean to Japanese in Best Mode, the translation sometimes gets cut off midway. (This doesn't happen when translating from Korean to English.)
Before the update, even if a translation stopped partway through, refreshing the page would display the full text, so it wasn't an issue.
If possible, could you please either revert to the previous version or fix this bug?

It still happens (both on Standard and Best mode). Here's an example (German > English):
Manchmal bekommt man in einem Chat oder Task mal eine Antwort - wenn man Glück hat.

I don't want an em dash unless it's in the source text.

Kagi Translate no longer saves anything in translation history for me. I cleared the translation history thinking this might fix it, but now it just says "Nothing here yet... Try translating something!" even though I've translated plenty of things afterwards. I've tried toggling the option off and on but this made no difference. This is on pc, vivaldi browser, in case it matters.

edit: seems to be working again.

When using Kagi's website translation feature, Reddit pages are either poorly translated into Korean or the translation is very slow. Also, a 500 Internal Error occurs when trying to translate a Reddit URL.

I'm getting a 150 character limit for alternative translations. This is way too little if we want the feature to be anything but a toy... The best use case for alternative translations is precisely with full paragraphs

mvieira we've increased the limit (doubled) shortly after your comment, let us know if you are happy with the limit now.

kotaro I have a vague memory of going over this already, but not sure if it was another user or you. Are you on android or iOS?
dnlz images for definitions are a beta feature, will disable it by default - we are working on adding more sources to prevent this from happening.

I can reproduce the 500 error that sa9ri reported, using Vivaldi 7.5.3735.58.

Hanbyeol The 500 Internal Error was resolved by refreshing the page.
Reddit comments still aren't loading, and I'm getting the error message: "Please check your internet connection, then refresh the page to reload the reCAPTCHA."
