There is a bug when switching between input languages: the definition and examples is not updated for the new language. Here are two screenshots. First one shows correct definition for the Dutch word. But when I switch to French it still shows the Dutch explanation.

Giorgio You do save my assistant threads. I don't see why saving translations would be different. A 24 hour opt in would be wonderful. My use case is syncing between different devices. No fun if done through export / import.

frin These ones are weird. For 1) so you just leave the tab open for some time, then come back to it and see the language being switched to something you never used? For 2) it would be helpful to know what browser you are using, and if you can reproduce with any other browser other than your main one and/or while being logged out.
Zambyte do you have any custom css at all (even if disabled) on Kagi Search? Might be that it's injecting it even if it should not.

Few things about the text to speech:

Show the gender next the voice name, for example: "Coral (female)"
When I click to play the audio again, it seems to regenerate it, even though it's already "downloaded", replaying without a change should just play the downloaded cached audio, it's faster and saves on your API calls
Sometimes the audio breaks prematurely, example with which I was detecting this quite often:

Input: English "I need a better phone.", output Japanese, the audio often ends after "denwa" in this: "Motto ii keitai denwa ga hitsuyō desu." (もっといい携帯電話が必要です。), even for the download action, got a recording saved if needed.

But @Giorgio consider having document_drop.svg preload in (so it's already loaded when the user switches to Document mode. Currently if you switch to Document mode Doggo pops in after half a second cause it wasn't downloaded yet.
So can be done with just a rel="prefetch" added to the img tag

1st issue:

I've had some weird things going on with selected languages. Yesterday I opened Kagi translate with a Japanese sentence that I usually want translated to English, and it somehow translated to Indonesian. I've never interacted with Indonesian, and I don't have any interest in it. (the Indonesian was not shown under recently used languages afterwards)

I kept using it yesterday and left a tab open with Japanese to English translation. Today I went back to its tab in Chrome and it was set to Japanese to French. I've also never interacted with the French choice. (the French is now listed under recent languages, even though I've not manually set it)

2nd issue:

I have dark mode enabled. The language dropdowns are in dark mode. If I go to the cogwheel settings icon at the top right, go to the appearance tab (I don't change or toggle anything, it was already set to Dark theme, the middle option), I just close it with the X button, now the language dropdown is in light mode. If I keep the dropdown open, it will update to dark mode after a while by itself. A really interesting interaction 😄

MarceloColina Hey! Glad you are enjoying translate. Document translation is currently in beta for paid Kagi Search subscribers - there is no separate subscription needed at the moment. We support TXT, MD, DOC, DOCX, CSV, PDF files - we're both looking into improving the quality of existing translations and adding new formats.

Kurotsuchi Hey, there are indeed plans to have a separate way to check definitions 🙂 . It's worth noting that if you only care about definitions, then you can use standard mode, as the process behind generating the definition is currently the same for best/standard. Also - your earlier suggestion here Kurotsuchi is done and has been done for a few days - but forgot to update you here 😅 . Simply hover on a specific meaning to see which part of speech it could apply to.

Hello, @Giorgio . I've seen the recent posts on Discord regarding the cost of Best. I frequently use Kagi Translate, but often I'm not seeking a direct translation of a word or phrase—rather, I'm looking for its definition. Given that the cost of Best is quite high, and to help manage expenses (which sometimes stem from my habit of repeatedly checking definitions), I would appreciate an option that provides only the definition(s) of a word or grammatical structure, without including a full translation. Are there any plans to implement this feature? If not, I'd like to propose it as a suggestion! My idea is to place this option in the page header, next to the existing tabs such as 'document', 'site', and so on.

I've been having problems with Translate that prevent me from using it (which is a shame, since translate is the first time I heard about Kagi).

Dark mode (with automatic selected) never seems to be fully dark, but it's an unpleasant, half-readable dark/light mode mix of the two.

The actual translate feature just...doesn't work for me some of the time. Sometimes it won't translate anything.

Both issues are with Safari, on macOS and also on iPhone. Wipr and StopTheMadness are my safari extensions, perhaps one of them is affecting this. I'm not using any custom CSS, and the themes I selected are the default two.

electric_eel_maki Hey, really sorry about this-it definitely isn't the intended behavior.

To help us troubleshoot, could you please try the following and let us know if the problem persists?

Use a different browser (such as Orion, or one based on Chromium/Firefox). and/or use a private/incognito window
Temporarily log out of your Kagi Search account.

Additionally, console logs would be very helpful. They contain sensitive information so please don't share them here, but you can reach me at giorgio@kagi.com. Thank you if you find some time to do this, we really would like to get to the root of the problem and fix it 🙏
