I installed the android app and I have a couple off issues.
Widget for home screen:

  1. when I click the search bar on the home screen to write it opens the app I can't write anything in it.
  2. if i click the mic to record it just crashes.

In app assistant:

  1. Mic button in app doesn't work.
  2. File upload also doesn't work when I click the file I want it just goes back to the assistant with no file chosen or uploaded

The app itself:

  1. Doesn't ask for mic permission and when I look at app info there is no way to give it mic permissions
2 . Doesn't ask for file permissions and when I look at app info there is no way to give it file permissions

I'm on:
Google pixel 7 Pro
Grapheneos android 14

Widget for home screen:

  1. I expect to be able to write in the search bar on the home screen
  2. I expect to be able to use speech to text instead of typing instead of typing for search

In app assistant:

  1. I expect the mic button to work and to allow me to use speech to text instead of typing
  2. I expect the file to be uploaded to assistant.

The app itself:

  1. I expect the app to ask for mic permissions
  2. I expect the app to ask for file permissions

    Just to clarify,

when you say that you cant write anything in the search box, do you mean the keyboard doesn't pop up (known issue), or if it does - typing does not work at all?

I am also assuming that you have google play services installed on your device (just to make sure)?

pixel it's not that the keyboard doesn't pop up it's that the search bar literally acts like an app icon.

I have uploaded a screen recording showing what happens.

Yes I have google play services installed.

Ahh, alright. Yes that is currently intended how it is.
It's meant to open the app and focus the searchbox so that you can start typing.

I am not sure if one can type directly in a widget (?)
but we do have plans to make a more native approach like the Google search bar which instantly opens up a screen to type as opposed to waiting for the webview to load.

As requested by @pixel on Discord, here is the information of my device:

        --- REDMAGIC 9 Pro ---
        Manufacturer: REDMAGIC (nubia)
        Model: 9 Pro
        Model #: NX769J
        Hardware version: V1AMB
        UPC: 6974608316976
        FCC ID: 2A9QD-NX769J
        Android version: 14 (latest)
        Android build: REDMAGICOS9.0.20_NX769J_GB (latest)
        Kagi app version: 0.17

Below is a screenshot of the "App info" screen for the Kagi app in my device's system settings. As you can see, the Kagi app doesn't seem coded to request any permission.

So the app can't technically access the microphone. However, the Kagi search widget that you can add to your launcher does manage to perform voice searches by invoking the Google dictation module (I believe), which is a clever way to skip requesting the microphone permission. However, that doesn't work on "The Assistant" screen of the Kagi app, so a voice search can't be performed there.

The Assistant in Kagi app for Android has buttons for voice recordings and attachments. I can press both but nothing happens, no attachments or voice recordings are sent to Assistant. I'm using ChatGPT 4o without internet access for the model.

I expect to be able to attach a file or a voice recording

Merged 1 post from Attachments and voice inputs not working in Assistant in Kagi Android app.

Can confirm that it's fixed with the app update that just came out! Thank you Kagi team!
