When you click on the search widget, it opens up kagi search in a "halfway" state.

For reference, when opening from the kagi app, you get the search bar centered with the dog on top, you click on the search bar and it moves to the top of the screen and the keyboard appears.

From the widget you get something different. It opens up with the search bar at the top of the screen but with no keyboard, making you have to often switch the position of your hand so that your thumb can reach the top of the screen, tap into the bar so that the keyboard can appear.

Further oddity: after the app has been "primed" (already open), clicking on the widget makes the keyboard appears automatically, but not on cold start.

When using the Kagi Android app's search widget on the home screen, tapping the search widget will open the search screen with the search bar at the top, but the keyboard does not always automatically open. It requires additional taps to get it to show.

The best way I can attempt to reproduce this is to open the search widget, and then use the Back button/gesture repeatedly to leave the app back to the home screen. Upon tapping the search widget again, Doggo is displayed, then the search interface will open without the keyboard popped up.

Device info is Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra on Android 14, OneUI 6.1. Using Google GBoard.

Every single time the search interface is opened, the keyboard should be displayed so that a search term can be entered.

kmirs thank you for the report. We are currently working on a fix. I'll merge this thread with a similar report to streamline communication

At the moment, upon tapping the search bar in the Kagi widget for Android, it'll launch the app with the search field selected but will not trigger the keyboard.

By triggering the keyboard, you'll save the need to click the search field again once the app has opened.

When using Kagi app on Android and its home screen widget, when I click it to start a search, the search box is focused, but they keyboard doesn't open.
When I use Brave Browser search widget (which I set the default search engine to be Kagi), when I click the widget, the keyboard auto opens, which is a lot more convenient.
I recorded a little video to show what I mean, if it isn't clear: (First I use Brave search widget and then Kagi search widget)

When clicking on the widget the keyboard should pop up automatically

@Luis I just encountered this bug again! It seems that something in the most recent changes undid the fix that was applied 😕

Sadly, I too am also encountering this. I'm using a Pixel 8, running Android 15. I'm also using a custom keyboard - SwiftKey.
