If it had a PWA manifest it would be able to be installed on a phone as a webapp. (currently it can only be installed as a bookmark which then opens in the browser)

This is a great idea, and should not be hard to do!
You can use https://www.pwabuilder.com to validate the manifest and everything when it's done and even help generate the manifest.
