  • Fast search not working in existing tab (Kagi for Safari, iOS 18 Beta)

Update (Aug 20 / 24): fast redirect seems to have been fixed and functioning as intended with:

  • iOS 18 DB 6
  • (Kagi for Safari 2.2.6)

When using Kagi for Safari with the iOS 18 Beta, searching via the search bar with fast search ON from an existing tab does not trigger a search.

In order to search with fast search turned ON, you have to create a new (empty) tab, and search from there. Interestingly, after creating a new tab and searching, your original search appears in its original tab (see recording below).

Important to note: I am on iOS 18 DB 3, and this behaviour has been present since the 1st developer beta (possibly a change to how Safari now handles search via the search bar).

Screen recording:

Expected to be able to type a search query in the search bar from an existing and have Kagi navigate to the search results.

Did not expect to have to navigate to a new (empty) tab in order to search.

Edit 1: Also important to note:
If I turn off the Kagi for Safari extension and search from an existing tab, search works fine.

Edit 2: turning off "Use fast redirect method. Should work for most users. If you experience issues, uncheck this option." fixed this issue. Edited post to reflect this.

Edit 3: Update- fast redirect seems to have been fixed and functioning as intended with:

  • iOS 18 DB 6
  • (Kagi for Safari 2.2.6)
gimmick-scissor changed the title to Fast search not working in existing tab (Kagi for Safari, iOS 18 Beta) .

I had the same issue on iOS 18. I disabled the fast redirect method as suggested in this post and since then it seems to work fine.

@Luis updated this thread (seems to be working as intended now)- not sure how to edit tags on posts here

The updated extension did not work for me until I have enabled Kagi extension on all websites. Now it seems tow ork fine.

I’m seeing this issue on the full release of iOS 18. With fast redirect turned on, searching in an existing tab which Kagi does not have permission to access often does nothing.

If I attempt it a second or third time it eventually works. I’ve turned fast redirect off now and it seems to be OK.

It was working fine until I updated to iOS 18.

This issue started occurring for me once I upgraded to iOS 18. With fast search enabled, Safari would not search using the address bar within an existing tab and required that I open a new tab to search instead. After opening a new tab to search, I COULD fast search within the original tab again. Issue occurs multiple times a day. Disabling fast search has resolved the issue for me.
