Since around a month ago I started to notice a rather significant decline in search results quality, regarding the language of the results. I’m french canadian so I tend to search in both english and french.
A few months back I’m pretty sure I was getting more bilingual results and never felt the need to change Kagi’s language, but since maybe a month ago I find myself constantly looking at the language I’m using since I’m always getting either english results (when set to CA-en) or french (when I set CA-fr).
Did something change that I’m not aware? This is altering my experience with Kagi quite a bit since I always have to toggle between language.
It’s unfortunate because I don’t have an exemple of the results I was getting before, but I feel they were more organic, in the sense that I’m in Canada and Kagi was providing results in both french and english, with local results when relevant to my query. Now I have to toggle between language to get the results I want, and the results drastically change between language depending on the query.
On the attached screenshot, you can see my query for an important french canadian news website, La Presse. When using the default language on my account, CA-en, the first result is a wikipedia page in english. If I switch my language for CA-fr, I get the result that I want. I never had to do that before. Also, if I use the International option, the results look more like what I would want, but is sometimes lacking the more local results I used to have.
