It should open via !bang/!bangs
Could be also linked to on https://kagi.com and/or the sidebar, where also the datacenter region is shown.
The URL could be similar to https://duckduckgo.com/bangs → https://kagi.com/bangs
The Page should describe what bangs are and there should be a search bar for them, similar to DuckDuckGo. In my mind it looks very similar to the one from duckduckgo except the kagi branding, but I'm definitely not a frontend designer, and I love the design of all the Kagi sites, very simple but still full of features and settings.
Differences to DuckDuckGo's site
Kagi personalized bangs
List all places where a user can define their own bangs and explain them, or link to the documentation. I envision something like the mockup you posted on discord for the descriptions of the different AI assistant modes.
Lenses https://kagi.com/settings?p=lenses
Custom bangs https://kagi.com/settings?p=custom_bangs
Quick Bangs https://kagi.com/settings?p=search
(Am I missing another place where a user can define bangs?)
More categories
Incorporate more bang categories (I'm talking about the categories that are currently listed on the DuckDuckGo site below the search bar at the bottom of the page)
Kagi bangs
Examples: !help, !i, !m, !n, !v, !sum, !answer, !llm, !asks, etc...
These should only include the bangs that link to Kagi related sites, Kagi search queries
"Diff"/"Differences"
Examples: !maps, !img,!p, ...
This should include bangs that DuckDuckGo also has, but link to different pages.
This will be useful for DuckDuckGo users that already used bangs heavily and may be confused why it links to another page.
For example, a few days ago someone on discord was confused why !p does not link to Pinterest like they were used to in DuckDuckGo.
There will be overlap with the Kagi specific bang category, don't know if there is a better solution for this, could also be some kind of search 'filter'?
Personal bangs
The categories above should be static and not include user specific bangs, this category is dynamic and user specific. It should list these bangs that are different for the user, for example if they defined it for a lens, created a custom bang, or made a bang available as a quick bang (without !).
Search
The search, would look IMO better in a columnar design:
Another column could be if it is a quick bang or not, but I suppose this could be harder to accomplish?
Future
These are some ideas that don't currently exist in Kagi and could be added later on.
Bangs library
Similar to lenses, make custom bangs shareable and let the user add bangs defined by the community.
Bangs statistics
See what users use bangs for, which get used the most. I don't know if this is something that Kagi wants, but I have it in mind very similar to the domain blocking part on https://kagi.com/stats.
