Kagi has a Twitter account, but no Mastodon?

I can't find a Mastodon account for Kagi. I deleted my Twitter account - for obvious reasons. Kagi as a privacy aware search engine should, in my opinion, have a Mastodon account instead of "Twitter only". It would be nice if you would be reachable/readable on Mastodon too.

kameit00 Thanks for bringing this up. We are still too small and do not really have a 'social media manager' - and it is just me randomly posting on twitter. I can barely manage our twitter presence let alone another social media at this time (we do not have linkedin/tiktok/instagram either).

Please pay attention to the following facts:

The fediverse is not reduced to mastodon only, even for the microblogging part of it.
I think it's better to have an actual account on the fediverse than only crossposting from Twitter. It is supposed to be different, with different culture, for a reason. And it was true way before Musk.

While I’m all about Mastodon/Fediverse (see my recent thread about Kagi here : https://mamot.fr/@ploum/111028702144600436 ), I do also think that social networks are a huge waste of time for companies.

So, as an alternative to have one Mastodon account, I suggest the following: do not advertise any social account on Kagi website (saying something like "we spend our time improving Kagi, not chitchating on every platform).

That would be a nice nod at those discussions ;-)

For Mastodon, I would recommend to create a personal Vlad account. The Mastodon niche is very similar to the potential Kagi niche but one thing Mastodon do like is personal contact. You, Vlad, are doing an awesome work at being transparently yourself instead of hiding behind a corporate account. I like it. I feel that you will probably like it a lot more on Mastodon than on Twitter but, as I said, those are timesinks…

We already do not advertise any social account on Kagi website exactly to set the expectations about our presence.

For Mastodon, I would recommend to create a personal Vlad account.

The main issue is time. Even if I created an account, one needs to spend time to nurture it, build social circle otherwise it is just a dead account.

And I spent 80% of my time last few weeks building Small Web, 20% of time running the company and slept about 10 hours total 🙂

So it is not about what I want to do, but what I need to be doing with the time I have, and social media is just not high up on my priorities.

I understand the time limitations, but having Twitter and not having Mastodon feels weird.
Maybe you could use Buffer (which has a free tier) that allows you to post to both twitter and mastodon at once (and other platforms).

Thibaultmol It is not just about posting (that is solveable with some tech as you indicate), it is also about engagement.

Once you establish brand presence somewhere, users will also expect to be able to interact and ask questions, and we do not want to get in a position where we let them down by not replying. This requires active management and we do not have a dedicated 'social media manager'. This is the same reason we do not have Threads or Blue Sky presence as well (all being requested by our users). I was using twitter previously and kagihq twitter account is effectively run by me, which does not scale.

But I agree this should change in the future, and upvoting this feature and making your voice heard helps us put greater value on it.

(maybe i'm being optimistic) but I wonder if you could outsource it to the community in a sense.
like: if someone mentions the account on one of the social accounts, then that reply gets sent to a Discord channel. So that community members also get notified when someone @ 's the account and can reply instead

Thibaultmol We can do that in the same way we could leave this forum to be managed by community members - it can go only so far, with great risk attached.
