I'm designing a web app that combines bookmarks, bangs, notes, and tasks. These concepts are all related: so the result will be a combination of my most-used (web) apps:

Observations:

bookmarks are notes that say "this URL is important or useful."
- often I want to add more notes
- adding text content of url to bookmark as note would help find bookmark later (and preserve content)
bookmarks can be a todo-list of items...
- to read later
- to check when searching for something
- to do when following a (daily) routine
both bangs and bookmarks provide shortcuts for launching a particular URL
- bangs are just a special case of bookmarks that adds a trigger and/or query parameter(s).
I often want to attach notes/urls to tasks as I work on them.
- tasks will simply be notes with a due date and/or priority
- it will be simple to convert between bookmarks, notes, tasks, and bangs (they are almost identical)

UI/UX

A web-based command palette/launcher: search box plus list of results
Items can be bookmarks, bangs, notes, tasks
- Possible to filter to single mode (just bookmarks, bangs, notes, or tasks)
Initially, the list starts with pinned/most frecently used items.
As input typed into field, items are ranked based on matches and frecency

(Kagi) search/bangs will be one of the main, default actions
The user may just use the text box to compose text before sending to another web app
- An example of this: I find composing in https://zz.leftium.com/ much more pleasant than https://copilot.microsoft.com/
- User may simply prefer word/char/line count and fullscreen mode of https://zz.leftium.com
Some other ideas for actions:
- compose email
- convert markdown to html
- clean unneeded params off urls
- beautify JSON/JS
- arithmetic
- etc...

Sad to see this got changed from Planned to Under Review. I hope to see this feature sometime in the future.
Bookmarks would come in handy when using Kagi on different devices, particularly ones I don't own so that I can refer to them when I do get home or onto one of my own devices.

I'm heavy user of Kagi Summarizer, I usually do things in this order:

Come across interesting site/article/whatever
CMD + L(focus toolbar), then CMD + C then CMD + W(close tab)
CMD + T(new tab) -> summarizer -> paste link
Obsidian clipper extension with template for summarizer which automatically Creates new .md note with all the content

Only thing I'm missing is that when I open Kagi Summarizer the focus is not immediately on the Input so I need to click it. I think that would be nice feature and not hard to implement @Vlad

kovsi You could just add !sum in front of the url and it will auto redirect you to summarizer

This is not about Kagi's own bookmarking service, but related to the overall discussion. One thing that works very well for me is linkding. It's self-hosted. The linkding injector extension shows results from bookmarks for every search right in Kagi. It works great. The injector might be useful for UI ideas.

Just wanted to add onto the discussion here and support a Kagi-hosted bookmark/saved search feature. Had the idea earlier but found this thread was already opened, intended on making a rough mock up of UI. A lot of times I start researching a rabbit hole on my phone and want to move to my PC or another device. Rather than doing the search again (costly for you and uses up Starter plan member's searches) it would be amazing to be able to save result(s) directly in Kagi.

My ideas for how it might work:

Bookmark icon to the left of the "shield" in search results
Clicking this brings up a popover that lets you save that URL and the search query that led to it
Saved URLs can be assigned tags, put into folders/categories, and have notes attached to them
Folders/categories can also have a note added to them
In the top right, either inside of or to the left of the new four square menu users can access the bookmarks
Either inside a popover or on a new page bookmarks can be edited, opened, and deleted
This page should have quick access to the Summarizer and GPTs for a quick AI workflow should users desire

If "recent" means recently bookmarked, it wouldn't be very useful for me.
However, if "recent" means recently accessed that might be more useful.
Actually it would be useful if the list also included recent Kagi searches and any results clicked through. See sidebar Reddit recently added for an example (those are posts I recently viewed; not posts I made):

Currently, it's just bangs sorted by popularity. (Bangs are just special types of bookmarks. Or bookmarks are just special types of bangs. Both basically just point to a URL.)
So imagine your bookmarks are also included in the list.
Also imagine some tabs/filters so you could search just bookmarks, just bangs, etc.
Eventually, the list will be sorted by "frecency" which takes into account both time since last use and number of uses.

Interesting, both of these would be equally useful to me, thought I hadn't thought about recently accessed. You're right though, I'd probably add a tabbed sort of toggle on the top of the popover to switch between recently bookmarked and accessed.

This is a great idea for the bookmark list, having it be a sidebar would definitely invite an easier workflow if you're accessing bookmarks a lot (e.g. research rabbitholes). Wouldn't have to click on a menu button, then the bookmark; plus a longer list of bookmarks without being as cumbersome. Maybe I'll make a mockup of that as well, with the recently accessed vs bookmarked toggle. Since Kagi doesn't save searched currently a sidebar of recent searches wouldn't be possible, and personally wouldn't be useful. Can see why others might like it.

Planning on making that up tomorrow, that's one I'd already planned on a sidebar. A two column kinda design much like Kagi's settings page, list of bookmarks on the left, with a large area for editing the bookmark on the right. Bookmarks list on the left would include the folders your bookmarks are sorted in, unsure if it should be a tree style or more along the lines of Windows Explorer. One thing that's important to show in the larger bookmarks editor is the query that led to the bookmark. Didn't include this in the smaller popover as it seems like it'd be too cluttered. The "frecency" you mentioned is something I definitely see being useful in a bookmarks feature.

Just learned Google has a bookmarks feature (called Saved). Kagi likes to copy Google features, so this may help convince them to add it:

However, I probably won't wouldn't use it. I do want bookmarks, but in a very specific way most bookmark services don't provide.

Given that browsers almost universally have native bookmarking, and introducing another system on top of it would increase complexity of Kagi's interface, implementing bookmarks would with the exception of the Orion browser (which has them) only create redundancy without adding value.

laborious-bluff The assumed advantage would be (IMO) for Kagi to explictily search (and surface) content from your bookmarks in a clearly visible way.

Finally got some time to make a mockup of a sidebar, might be a bit busy but I think it gets some of the possible elements across. In response to @leftium I added an option to switch between recent and frequently accessed bookmarks. Bookmarks can have tags, be put in folders, and the query that lead to the bookmark can be viewed if applicable. I don't know if it's possible but Orion bookmarks are currently a bit of a dead end for me as I just use it on my iPhone, would be nice to be able to see those on web as well.
