I like your idea, @Vlad! I do agree with @seventhwave that some of the advanced capabilities, especially full-text archiving and tagging, would be important to have in order to make this an attractive minimum-viable offering from Kagi.

I'd definitely be happy to help brainstorm on this.

Also, I just visited tinygem.org —

the initial connection to their (your?) site was very slow fyi. 10+ seconds.
the concept looks cool, but it is slightly different than personal archiving platforms, like Pinboard or Raindrop.
I'd prefer to stay away from personalized recommendations/using ML to surface recommendations in a tool like this
I don't see full-text search or perma-archiving
not sure if it's there or not, but I don't see any mention of an RSS feed

Tinygem looks like it could be a good foundation to build the additional functionality on top of!

EDIT: I just pulled up the /changelog page for Tinygems, and note:

It does do archiving, via archive.is and archive.org. Nice!
It says "Full text search with tag support." It's unclear to if this means I can search either in the document's full text OR my saved tags, OR if this means I can search the full text of my saved tags.
It does include tagging. Nice!

What if Kagi built a way to save bookmarks/search results and then build functionality to import a browser bookmark html file (which most of these third party services are able to export to?)

Then we can use those bookmarks in people's search results?

I think that would be a great start! The main missing functionality in the MVP you describe would be lack of full-text search/keyword matching.

Maybe when a user uploads a bookmark HTML file, Kagi would crawl and index all of the URLs in that file? What do you think?

I would love this feature! I use both, Pinboard/Raindrop and sync them with IFTTT.
I 100% agree with the original post. Would be great if my bookmarks could be included from either source in my searches.

Pinboard's bookmarks are public (AFAIK) and could be crawled even without any API key:

I think Raindrop has a similar feature, where you can get a public URL for a collection.

For me another acceptable solution would be to be able add my public Pinboard url to a Lens.

I’d prefer if Kagi pulled it all in house. Kagi acts as a bookmarking server with full text search/indexing capabilities. Search engine quality search is a huge feature. Also bookmark search integrating it into the search engine. Then expose an api to bring your own management client. Server would ideally have tagging features, etc (pinboard api compatible?). A web client with basic bookmark management could be provided but less important. A big reason for this is pinboard is slowly dying right now (archival and full text search seems to be broken, ended up canceling). So I wouldn’t want to rely on third parties. I don’t see archival being too important as a service kagi provides, other than internet archive, as with an api you could bring your own (eg archivebox).

Well in principle the idea is doable. The main questions are:

Will you pay and additional $2-$3/mo extra (which is the cost of raindrop) to have full text search over your bookmarks (as obviously this will take additional compute/storage). How much storage do you get?
How many people are actually both interested in this and willing to pay more (s a percentage of all Kagi users). This thread having only 4 upvotes is a bit concerning.

Before we allocate our (limited) resources to this right now, we would need to better answer answers to these questions. Having said this, we will 99% implement this as it aligns with other things we are doing, just it may not be right away.

Upvoting this - not for the raindrop/pinboard integration (which I do not use), but for the idea to upload my bookmarks, especially if it could somehow be automated via the Firefox extension (big plus would be, if only select bookmark folders would be synced to kagi then, so I could sync my work bookmarks but not my personal ones)

I'm designing a web app that combines bookmarks, bangs, notes, and tasks. These concepts are all related: so the result will be a combination of my most-used (web) apps:

Observations:

bookmarks are notes that say "this URL is important or useful."
- often I want to add more notes
- adding text content of url to bookmark as note would help find bookmark later (and preserve content)
bookmarks can be a todo-list of items...
- to read later
- to check when searching for something
- to do when following a (daily) routine
both bangs and bookmarks provide shortcuts for launching a particular URL
- bangs are just a special case of bookmarks that adds a trigger and/or query parameter(s).
I often want to attach notes/urls to tasks as I work on them.
- tasks will simply be notes with a due date and/or priority
- it will be simple to convert between bookmarks, notes, tasks, and bangs (they are almost identical)

UI/UX

A web-based command palette/launcher: search box plus list of results
Items can be bookmarks, bangs, notes, tasks
- Possible to filter to single mode (just bookmarks, bangs, notes, or tasks)
Initially, the list starts with pinned/most frecently used items.
As input typed into field, items are ranked based on matches and frecency

- User may simply prefer word/char/line count and fullscreen mode of https://zz.leftium.com
Some other ideas for actions:
- compose email
- convert markdown to html
- clean unneeded params off urls
- beautify JSON/JS
- arithmetic
- etc...
