Strict Literal Search

I suggest a feature which permits the user to perform a strict literal search. A strict literal search is defined as a search in which each character is matched exactly, with no deviation whatsoever. For example, a search for "Apple" would return only results containing "Apple", a search for "Apple>Google" would return only results containing "Apple>Google", a search for "Appl3++" would return only results containing "Appl3++", and so on. This functionality will be of great utility in the searching of short code snippets, and for other purposes.

Hi @jpg , our "" operator is already implemented as a strict content match, with only a few exceptions where we found it to be too strict by some user's reports.

You can also use the "verbatim" mode, which does the same thing without you having to type the quotes around every term.

If you find a case where this doesn't work as expected, that could be a bug we could look into.

I will make a note about programming searches: we have some improvements we are working on specifically for this case.

z64 Thanks for prioritizing literal/verbatim searching at a time when other search engines increasingly dilute or even remove this functionality. This was one of the reasons I stopped using Google search years ago, and it was one of the reasons I stopped using DuckDuckGo recently once they started down the same path.

z64 Great! Might you consider modifying search syntax to turn verbatim on for current search if it contains exactly one (either single or double) quote as the very first or last character (after whitespace trimming)?
