Hide Stats Button Completely Missing Now

Hi there,

I noticed the stats started showing in all my searches across all devices where I previously hidden them and noticed as well that the "Hide Stats" button is gone.

All I could find from the change log was this:

Any ideas what happened? Also, would be nice to have this setting saved server-side (as all the others in "Settings"), instead of being on a Cookie that I would have to go and "Hide Stats" from each and every device I use every time after clearing them. As far as my year+ experience with Kagi is, that might be one of the only settings that live on the browser? Why wasn't it made available server-side in Settings?

I think the general consensus was that you could use custom css for this instead, would that suffice?

Where is that general consensus? I haven't seen any documentation about it (besides the issue I linked). Has the feature to Hide Stats been removed? Where/when was it announced? And do you know what CSS code I should use to hide those stats (is it documented somewhere)?

OK, did a quick look around and the following code seems to works, but it would be nice to address the removal of that "Hide Stats" action and that we were expected to do Custom CSS now to achieve the same thing. From what I got from that change log, they "fixed" that the "Hide Stats" action would display in pages where it didn't do anything, but instead, it seems to be removed from anywhere; with no communication that that was the case.

Sorry, perhaps bad wording.
The button was in fact removed around 2 months ago with some changes we made to the top nav bar.
It was also in a weird place with the bangs stuff which didn't make much sense.
An idea that was thrown around internally was to put it in general search settings if it were to live somewhere.

It seems we did not really announce this change and it was missed, which is on us and something we should have done.
(with a snippet of custom css that a user could apply if they wish to hide it)

I will bring it up internally to see what we'd like to do regarding this.

Thanks for addressing this @pixel. I had the stats hidden as I liked to keep the experience as "minimal" as possible and really didn't care how many milliseconds a query took on the back end, as it didn't add any value to me as a user to know that.

I'm using the CSS posted in my previous comment to hide it for now, but would be great if you decide to add this back into server-side setting so 1) I don't have to be changing this every time I deleted cookies in a cliente (as previously worked) 2) I can blank the Custom CSS and use the default available options instead.

An improvement for you to consider as well @pixel. I thing this started happened when you added the orange "Quick Answer" button there (around the same time the search stats were back, so I never noticed this until hiding them again now).

Hiding the stats via the CSS leave a considerable amount of wasted space now, because that row is used to hold the Quick Answer button on the right. You might want to consider streamlining this if you decide to include the toggle back in Settings, and maybe perhaps you have some suggestions I could use in the meantime to put the Quick Answer button somewhere else? (Probably / Not sure if possible only with CSS)

Updated my CSS code to at least waste space on right and move the button to the left. It's a little bit prettier than having the button all by itself on the right.

I noticed in mobile the Quick Answer button renders on the left of the first row, which is great, as you don't waste another line just for the stats and the button.

Any chance @pixel of considering the Quick Answer button to always display to the left of that first row of controls; not only for mobile? Would increase discoverability/adoption of the feature by your users and optimize the space even further for those that would want to hide the whole stats DIV.
