When set to the default Chrome search engine, some engines display a custom "new tab experience:"
This is the Kagi new tab experience:
It would be nice and more convenient if Kagi had a similar new tab experience.
- The search input would be more prominent and easier to access compared to the URL bar.
- The new tab experience could make access to Kagi's other services easier
It seems Kagi's new_tab_url was added to Chromium in March of 2025, so perhaps the addition just hasn't been released, yet?
The Kagi browser extension could add a URL override for newtab that redirects to the Kagi page.
It is possible to install another Chrome extension that will do this override for you. However it involves installing an additional extension, and I was unable to find one that prevents the flash of white before redirecting. (Please support dark mode if you add this override.)
