This would be useful as a quick tool for people (likely mainly developers/sysadmins) when needing a quick UUID for something

A widget shows up at the top with a randomly generated UUID

Before DuckDuckGo added some of their AI features, one of the most useful widgets they had was the UUID widget. It worked pretty much exactly as the above proposal

There are, of course, many other ways to get a random UUID - this one was just rather convenient for some workflows.

It's a bit hidden right now as some things are in flux, but you can access this via our calc and typing uuid.

This will absolutely be made more accessible again in the future.

I had no idea. Is there somewhere that's documented and discoverable? I'd love to find out what other features calc has, as well as what other widgets I can invoke.

When I search for "guid" I want to get a randomly generated GUID above all search results.
I know it is a small thing but as a developer who pretty often needs a random GUID out of the blue I love that my search engine can provide me with this.

I used to use DuckDuckGo which implements this feature and I miss it a lot 🙁

I would like it to work sort of like how DuckDuckGo implements this feature.
I would like a copy GUID button and a refresh (create new GUID) button.

Hey! I merged your suggestion with a similar one. Currently, you can use the calculator widget to generate random UUIDs. Simply searching for uuid should trigger the widget:
https://kagi.com/search?q=uuid

AFAIK, for all intents and purposes, UUID and GUID are the same thing but feel free to correct me if that is not the case. I suppose having GUID also trigger the widget would be a good addition.

You are correct, when people speak of GUID and UUID they talk about the same thing.
Which is UUIDv4 and Kagi generates a UUIDv4 so that is great!
This solves my problem!

I would say that inside the Microsoft world it is generally more common to call it GUID than UUID.
An improvment would be to treat UUID and GUID as the same.
"guid" basically acts as an alias for "uuid" in the "calculator"
