Request to add ability to search in a particular thread

I was just trying to see if something I wanted to suggest was already mentioned somewhere in these forums. However, I could not find a way to search in one specific thread. Some threads are quite long and I've seen one go over 500 pages.

If this feature already exists, please accept my apologies and I'd really appreciate being shown the way.

If it does not exist, perhaps there's merit to adding it given that these forums are expected to only continue growing and get more active as you acquire more users. It's something that could help contribute to reducing duplicates.

Perhaps a designer would be more qualified to make a suggestion but I can think of a second search bar or a checkbox under the search bar at the top of the page (to say "search only in current thread").

For the time being we load all thread contents to the page. Your browsers native search function should be one way to search in the current thread in the meantime.

The whole thread does not load until you scroll further, right? Or does it load and just not display them?

No, all thread contents are loaded at once. It doesn't load as you scroll.

(This will probably change at some point, but for the time being we just render everything)

If I go to this page:

Or if I go to the link from the homepage of kagifeedback (https://kagifeedback.org/d/5305-kagi-translate-feedback/610) and then click on "Original Post" on the right hand side column, I begin at the top of the thread.

When I scroll quickly, I see placeholder stub/template images which are subsequently loaded and replaced by appropriate text and images of the messages they represent.

So, it appears that they are loaded "on the fly" rather than in the beginning.

I checked by searching for "Japan", case-insensitive and NOT whole-word-search. Initially the browser (Firefox) only showed 1 result but after scrolling a bit, it said there were 7 results. So, it appears that the browser search does not fulfil this purpose at the moment - unless this is something specific to my browser's setup.

Did I completely misunderstand what you had meant or is it that the behaviour I see at my end is not matching what you say it ought to be?

@madhatter Hah, sorry - for some reason I completely misread and thought you were asking about Assistant 🙂

You are correct. This is the nature of the forum software we use; I'm not sure if we have resources to customize it to that degree, but we can certainly take a look.
