Keep focus on good old search

[deleted] Doesn't matter. It's not the responsibility of a company to post everywhere about their roadmap. They focus on search mainly and will focusing and yes search is a finished product - it works and it works really well. It can only keep getting better.
For me, I want (upon further analysis) them to create an email service because it can be well integrated within search and browser, especially now that I don't have a reliable email provider and feel backstabbed by Proton I am looking for a fresh alternative.

InternetChunk You seem to be saying that when I pay for search for myself, the funds should be used to roll out email for you. Search is not a finished product, as shown by the number of false positives and false negatives in results.

If you were already paying for mail, I wouldn't wade into a discussion about how to improve mail by saying they should pay for some other unrelated new service such as a Kagi fork of Forgejo.

Even if Kagi email were a thing, would you expect them to break the law? You seem to expect that Proton should break the law. I hope you make your requirements to Kagi clear when you let them know about the mythical anonymous email service you're hoping they'll spend their web search revenue on.

How is email integrated into search?

And if you don't have a reliable email provider, that's too bad. There are plenty of good ones out there. (I use Runbox.)

Kagi had already planned to implement mail before you became a subscriber. You pay for search and you get good search results with a guarantee of continued development. A company can and most often will expand its portfolio of products if they feel ready - if you don’t like it then stop subscribing.

They are also developing mail very carefully so as not to overextend themselves while focusing mainly on search engine. We don’t know how many people work on mail and how involved they are, maybe they have some third party help? It’s a seperate project that will be integrated to Kagi search and Orion once it’s finished.

As shown by the examples already provided in this thread, while the search is competitive, it could use work. You say continued development is guaranteed, but who even are you? Just someone opining in a thread about how to improve search that you personally think search is fine despite the counter-evidence.

If search doesn't get better, I may very well unsubscribe. If it comes to that, I'm sure Kagi will be grateful for your thoughtful intervention.

kirkmc I don’t wish to use some random email provider just because they’re a provider, thats not a smart way of thinking.

All I’m saying is that Kagi Mail will happen whether users like it or not because it was in Kagi’s plans from the very beginning. I fully believe them when they say search updates won’t suffer due to mail’s development as they are taking a snail’s like approach but that ensures no resource overextension and very high standards of quality. If a user does not want to use mail then they don’t have to, they’re already paying for search and they will get good search. If they don’t like the company’s roadmap, plans, changes they are free to leave or more rationally as I did write on the forums, email their inquiries and read the blogs.

kirkmc Im curious how Kagi will implement their exisiting technology into email because from what I’ve heard and read they want to implement new features into email to make it well stand out (which is needed), have top of the line security and privacy measures and prioritise user habits and convenience. I am sure we’ll hear more about it when the project is in a more viable state but there was something about implementing search functions in mail or the web in mail? I’ve honestly no idea how that’d work but I am interested.

Kagi will continue to grow and opposed to you I am open to their ideas while rationally analysing them. I think I speak for many when I say we don't need such negative sentiment in the community.

I've provided several real examples of suboptimal search results and Luis has said they are under discussion for how it could be improved. If you're now saying they "won't" change, it seems to contradict what you said earlier that search will constantly improve.

People are often loudest about being rational at the exact time when they're being most driven by emotion. If you were engaging "rationally" I suppose there would be less hyperbole and more focus on facts and actionable outcomes.

I understand your point, but it is essential to us for users to express dissatisfaction when our Search is not meeting expectations. This feedback is the most valuable signal we have to improve our ranking, search pipeline, and 5to help us prioritise.

We appreciate your support, as well as the support of the entire community. But we must keep a very high standard to be successful, and posts like this are fuel to make that happen.

So, let's keep this thread constructive. And please continue sharing examples where our search does not hit the mark.

I subscribed for a search service.

At the time it was not clear to me that it is, as they say, an "internet company" and thus may introduce all sorts of products, like mail.

I hope search will be made better, as for example the ranking isn't working properly. So there's work to do on that part.
