I have a Kagi family and everyone in my household loves it. I'm definitely the power user and I pay for the Ultimate upgrade specifically to access Assistant. I had been using ChatGPT Plus previously, but I love what Kagi is doing and have found the Assistant integration with Kagi Search to be quite nice.
I'd love to have Assistant for the rest of my family, but the pricing is a bit problematic. I appreciate the service costs money to run, but the economics are hard to justify given the considerably lower utilization by the rest of the family. Search analytics show my spouse uses Kagi search 24% as much as I do while the children use it 6.5% - 11.5%. I'd imagine Assistant usage would be a single digit percentage of their search usage.
With a family of four, the Kagi family plan works out to $4.50/user/month (annual plan), while the ultimate upgrade would cost 3x as much ($13.50/user/month -- annually), on top of the $4.50 for Kagi search. It quadruples the cost for a service that is used far less frequently, even for me.
It'd be great if there could be something in the middle of no access and unlimited access. Maybe a credit-based system where I could buy credits for the family to consume. With the growing importance of AI tools, I'd like to introduce the kids to them, but realistically they're not going to use Assistant nearly enough to be worth extra expense. I'd be surprise if collectively the other members in my household used Assistant as much as I do and I maybe use it a few times per day.
In any event, I love the Kagi mission. I'm all on board with paying for a quality service. I'd just love to see a cost effective way to provide extra functionality to the rest of the family while preserving Kagi's revenue stream.
I'm open to ideas on how the billing could work. A credit system might be the easiest. As an admin of a family plan I'd like to be able to grant Assistant access to the rest of the family without having to buy an Ultimate upgrade for each. I'd be okay with a "lite" plan that caps the number of Assistant interactions per day or a credit-based system where I could pre-purchase credits and allow each member to consume, perhaps with an optional quota on the admin side.
Product-wise, I'm not looking to change anything about Assistant, other than perhaps showing the remaining interaction or credit amount along with having to add an error message when the daily limit is hit or credit balance is 0.
