Display !bang shortcuts in the search results

Many sites have bangs. How do we prevent the result page becoming littered with bangs even for sites you would never think of using.

Can someone make a mockup of what it would look like?

Vlad I think it can spread bang usage a lot if done properly.

I think it would only need to appear on the first result.
Because that is where 95% of the benefit would be, and that way you keep the results tidy.

Vlad that would be my preference.
Although I recognize that for others, such a change may introduce another UI element they don't need/want. Maybe running a poll in the Discord server and seeing how people response might be a wise idea. Or just providing a setting to hide it - although that now introduces more setting page clutter.

If it is a setting that needs to be turned on it defeats the whole point of bangs discoverability (as probably less than 5% of users will ever turn it on). And yes if it is turned on by default , it could unnerve some people, specially those not used to bangs.

What about showing inside the crystal orb? It makes a lot of sense because it's mostly domain related, helps with the visual pollution and basically catches the attention of people that liked the website and was going to boost it's ranking (the main audience most likely to use the bang).

Maybe you can use the image that's on DDG's official bang website (not sure about the license) to create a small icon to be side-by-side of the "Website Popularity", "Website Connection", etc:

Vlad This one took a time, but I think it was worth it! (Again, no idea about the image license)

I did it with amazon.com, which is pretty much an extreme case and demonstrates that you can show the shortest ones and hide the others - because if it has many bangs it's probably a famous website that people already known the bang.

About the things on the crystal orb, I think the secure connection indication is much less important. Https is the default today, it only gives real value when sites WITHOUT secure connection are found.
