Sort lens by usage

We already have the last used lens ready to be used in a single click, it would be even nicer to have the other lens sorted by usage.

Browsing6853 In case you didn't know, you can specify the exact ordering that you would like in your lens settings by dragging the lenses around on https://kagi.com/settings?p=lenses

Unsure if this is worth implementing in the face of that, would like to hear from others.

z64 I would exchange the personalized sorting feature by the automatic usage sorting without thinking twice. I think a lot of people using Kagi will open multiple tabs more to search for something, and the current lens sorting behavior doesn't help with that because you need to click on the lens on each tab separately. Another thing is that automatic sorting will simply benefit much more people than those few confidants of their lens usage frequency and active to update the order every few months. (people with the same search behavior won't feel any difference in the long term)

Browsing6853 This is a good idea should be sorted by usage but it then makes the Lens interface in settings confusing (ie the order will not mirror the order shown in UI). How would you remedy this?

Personally I would not have us remove custom sorting. I would have a toggle on top of the lens page that turns on/off custom sorting or sorting by recency, disabling dragging.

I see, and I also don't like the idea of having such complex setting for a feature that simple. Better to hear other opinions before, like you said.

Oh, now I get what you was talking about. The ON/OFF button is already working perfectly fine, so no need to add anything new, just remove the drag and drop thing. I would also love to hear if drag and drop the lens are people's first idea - mine was just click the giant toggle button, I only noticed the possibility of drag and drop because of how my mouse cursor changed when I hovered the lens.

There are two ideas in collision here. One of user sorting the lenses any way they want and us respecting it.

Second is simplifying interface and just have on/off toggles (not draggable) and us being 'smart', sorting lenses by usage.

What if we have an overall "sort by usage" toggle? So we can sort by usage as a default, but if people want to customise it they can do so by dragging/reordering lenses in the settings interface—which will then be mirrored by what shows up on the main page!

That way there's no inconsistency in the order. Also, most people will get their auto-sorting, but those who are particular about it can go manual.

(To make the UX smoother, we could say that when someone attempts to drag one of the lenses to rearrange, it automatically turns the toggle off, and they can manually turn it on again to revert to automatic sorting).
