OK, this now has become critical. Why? because you will migrate us from tag-based to folder-based thread organization, unconditionally, in 8 days and ticking.
Here's how this is NOT acceptable: some of us spent a lot of effort tagging. The announcement of the “new Kagi assistant” says
Your existing tags will become folders. Threads can now belong to one folder at a time, so threads with multiple tags will be organized into a single folder during migration.
I read this as one of these:
- information loss: one tag will now become the owning folder for multi-tagged threads
- (more likely?): fractal structure - every combination of tags becomes one folder, with a long name and populated by very few (maybe just one) thread.
No, please!
Doesn't this trainwreck in preparation not explain why we might want friggin' export of our threads?
Please seize the opportunity and give us the ability to download all of our threads with some light datastructure mapping filenames to bags of tags, if you want. Before June 11th!
