Anti Clickbait videos for all Accounts (not just family)

I feel a little conflicted on this, so I understand why it has not been universally implemented, on one hand I would much prefer a de-thumbnailed video search results and would use the feature if it was opt-in.

But there was also a discussion many months ago about implementing a helpline at the top of the search results, a feature I believe would help many people. Kagi decided this was meddling with the search results and would not be implemented. To me these are comparable, if you are changing UI to influence how users choose a result, you are meddling with the accuracy of the results. If the 'slippery slope' argument applies to helplines, then it applies to video thumbnails.

Kagi recently announced the release of two features (authentic thumbnails and clean video titles) that seem aimed at providing a cleaner experience when searching for videos through Kagi. I was pretty disappointed to see that this feature isn't currently available in all Kagi plan types. I think people, regardless of age, can benefit from these features. Adults are also susceptible to clickbait and distractions. Ultimately, Kagi is a tool that I use to efficiently find content and the option to use these features could improve that experience.

The first thing i thought of when i saw the feature is adults. Kids need to learn what clickbait is; turning it off wont help them with that. Plus kids learn thus stuff much quicker than adults. Adults understand clickbait, but its at times an eyesore and can get tiring to deal with. Is it only available on family plans for money reasons? Maybe add it as a + tier option for non families or a paid add-on?

I do agree that it shouldnt be turned on by default, not just for the reasons listed, but because some channels are really good at thumbnails. I like awarding youtubers for good thumbnails (plus it helps me find content) and punishing youtubers for bad. If this silently went live, id probably not notice for a long time, and once i would have, id be pissed.

pooispoois First of all, all users are susceptible to shock thumbnails and clickbait titles. At the very least this results in wasted time.

If you sanitize clickbait thumbnails and titles, users would waste more time because they will not be able to tell that those videos are low quality.

How about instead, Kagi could use the original video thumbnails from creators with visual AI to determine (guess) the quality of the video itself, and then use that to influence ranking? Just like Kagi uses the presence of trackers to determine influence the ranking of web pages?

carl How would a 3rd party AI "guess" which videos are bad and which are not from thumbnails? It wouldn't have access to watch time, dislikes, or viewer age metrics, so it would have to operate on a fairly clumsy method of treating all "clickbait thumbnails" (however that category is supposed to be formed) as corresponding to bad videos.

I would 100% enable this if given the option. I don't see how there's any downside to giving users choice as to how content is displayed for them.

I can see why you wouldn't want to enable it by default, but I think the marketing angle is kind of shaky ground anyway. If I want to, I can just use an adblocker to completely remove the elements for thumbnails on all videos if I really want to, this is no different to that except replacing it with something actually useful.

RonanCJ Typical clickbait thumbnails will be easy to identify by a visual AI, and those thumbnails are a good signal of expected video quality. It can never be perfect, but it can at least be a hundred times better than the current Kagi video results.
