Just came by to throw my 2 cents out there. While automatically falling back to an alternative search engine when out of queries would be amazing, I understand the business side of wanting your users to see the renewal screen as well as the dev labor side with there being bigger fish to fry so to speak and the sentiment of it just not quite feeling right manipulating or redirecting user queries automatically.
A middle-ground that may be easier (who knows) that I personally would love is if clicking the Google or Bing button to search there instead of renewing would not open in a new tab. I don't mind seeing the renewal screen, I do mind having to go back to clean up after kagi with loose tabs hanging around.
My primary annoyance, granted it is minor, is that the current design means my process is:
- Type query in address bar
- Get sent to kagi renewal screen
- Click Google button
- Go back to close kagi tab
- Go back to google tab to browse results.
Again, relatively minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things but it does add up after having to go back and clean up the loose kagi tabs several times.
