ER: config to focus search box on iOS

Hi team,

I use an iOS device with a hardware keyboard, and would like to start typing as soon as kagi.com loads.

Currently the site requires to tap the search box.

Proposal is a config option to focus the cursor on the text field upon load.

vlomsevlaai Hey, we'll release our iOS app in the next weeks, which will allow you to install a Homescreen widget. When you tap the widget, Kagi will load instantly with the search box in focus. Would that work for you?

Hi Luis, that would be fantastic if the app would redirect to Safari afterwards, I use many Safari-only features such as Private Relay, hence the request for the web portal. Thanks!

Hi @Luis, I'm trying the new app in TestFlight but haven't found a way to open the app with the keyboard ready. Is this functionality implemented? Thanks!

vlomsevlaai yes, you can add a widget to your home screen*. It opens the app with the keyboard ready, so you can immediately type your query

*long press > edit (top left corner) > add widget

Luis Got it, it's an iOS Home Screen Widget! I added it and had the result you described, so this issue can be closed for me. Thanks!

PS. Is there an open request to make the widget 1 tile? Currently the minimum size seems to be 4 tiles so Kagi is taking up more space... Thanks again!

Thought iOS was allowing me to change the widget size by long pressing and then selecting the leftmost size option, but that just turns the widget into the App launcher, which has the default behavior, not focusing the search box...
