IOS 18 Beta Sarai Extension Doesn't Immediately Execute on Re-used Tabs/Windows

I've confirmed that this is definitely the Kagi extension causing this issue. Turning off the extension and using one of the built in search engines doesn't suffer this problem. Lastly, I know iOS 18 is a beta but figured i'd submit a bug for visibility before its fully released in the fall.

In Safari on iOS 18 Beta (beta 2 and beta 3 thus far - didn't test in beta 1). To reproduce, in Safari on iOS with the kagi extension enabled and logged in, open a new tab and go to a website such as reddit.com and let the page load. Tap the address bar and enter a search term and hit "go". The address bar and keyboard close but safari stays on the same page. If you click the address bar again OR wait a few seconds, the kagi search will begin executing and redirect. Note, clicking the address bar will bring it up with the keyboard like its about to execute and then immediately dismiss itself.

Every time I search on an existing tab/window the search executes.

Knightrdyer Hey, as @seajay1221 suggested, could you please try disabling the DNR-based redirect?
To do this, click on the Kagi for Safari extension in your URL bar (in Safari) and toggle off the "Use fast redirect method" option. Let us know if this resolves your issue.

I've also been experiencing this issue for a while now, seems to be a problem with DNR-based redirecting.

You can toggle it off on the extension settings in the meantime.

Have not noticed since I’ve turned it off so seems to definitely be that setting.

Can also confirm this on the 18 beta. Turning off "Use fast redirect method" resolves the issue as expected but is not ideal as it makes searches feel quite slow and clunky.

I've already submitted feedback to Apple (recent similar report seems to be more than 10), and I haven't noticed anything related to DNR in Safari's release notes.

I suspect that this is a Safari bug introduced in iOS 18.

Looks like an update was released on TF today.
It works fine on my end (for now), feels snappy enough.

sefidel I also installed the extension from TF and so far on my 18.0 beta it's working exactly as expected.

After upgrading to iOS 18 and 18.1 beta, searching from the address bar no longer works. It hangs and doesn't go to Kagi and also doesn't change web pages.

Expected to go to Kagi search.

I installed the iOS 18 RC last week and noticed this issue as well. When entering a search query in Safari’s address bar, it takes a long time before I get redirected to Kagi.

iOS 18 will be released tomorrow — will this issue be fixed by an update if the Kagi extension soon?

I’m using iOS 18 and Kagi extension 2.2.6 and searching from the address bar only works intermittently. Sometimes the search term appears in my search history but doesn’t actually navigate me anywhere (not even the default search engine).

I’m using Kagi safari extension 2.2.6 on a new iOS 18 phone and have the same problem described in this post. Any update on a fix? I don’t see the DNR setting mentioned further above.

kevincrane You should probably try the 2.2.7 build on TestFlight. I'm not sure why the App Store version has yet to update but I'm still on the TF which works ok
