Upload files to Custom Assistants

I would like to add my vote to this request.
When I upload files into a custom assistant, they are bound to a single thread and only in that thread the context and the files exist. So if I'm stuck and reached a dead end in a conversation, and would like to start a clean conversation with several files as context, I would have to start a new thread and upload all of the files again.

I'd like to request this feature, that files and maybe also certain websites could be added to a Custom Assistant to keep as permanent context for any conversation starting in it.

Wanted to share one more idea for the upcoming Assistant tags:

Tag systems can be super powerful - this is a great opportunity to leverage https://tinygem.org/ and possibly expand on it
Let users have a 'store' of personal files and URLs (like the Kagi feedback request for custom assistant file uploads)
These files/URLs can have tags added to them
Tagging a thread not only brings past tags into context, but also all files/URLs with that tag
Custom assistants can have tags attached, allowing all threads to tap into everything labeled with that tag

I am not sure how well the tag system will work.

I did test the Kagi Assistant for 2 weeks, and decided its not near wehre my experience with ChatGPT Projects is.

I love that it uses kagi search, but I do use ChatGPT projects a lot, and I just update the files it keeps in context...
but what it tells me now is:

Files impacting responses
Responses may be lower quality due to the number of files this project is using.

With the tags just adding and adding, I am not sure if that would't defeat the purpose in the long run.

So in the end I am not sure if that will actually result in the desired state.

Any update on this ticket? Is the review almost done? Because TBH I'd love to echo @howie in saying I'd be more than happy to cancel my ChatGPT subscription because of this one feature that has yet to be added.

Just like how ChatGPT's custom GPT allow you to add text files or pdf's to a GPT which would make it really easy to add documentation or manuals to a Custom Assistant

ChatGPT calls it 'knowledge' but yeah

I would use it to add my own custom coding guidelines to a coding assistant.

JdH (it's a shitty workaround) but you could technically put your coding guidelines somewhere on a server. and instruct it to always first read the .md file at the url before it starts answering.. maybe? not sure if that would work actually, just brainstorming

Thibaultmol yeah, might work. But... I'd rather wait for an option to provide that to the custom assistant. I'm not that reliant on AI assistance personally. I just cannot push Kagi for work, when others have that feature, its ease to use and is already proven to work (custom GPT).

We will be updating the Kagi Assistant settings soon and, as part of this update, will introduce enhancements to Custom Assistants. This feature will be included.

+1 - this would be incredibly helpful. I can upload documents like my W-2s or tax docs (redacted ofc) and engage with it to help me improve my financial or tax planning, and I don't trust Claude / OAI with my data.
