Looking to move to Kagi but the "quick summary" and FastGPT inclusion seem like a pretty glaring red flag in regards to the future of kagi as a useful search engine. It's a robust engine to be sure, but the addition of this has me reconsidering in favor of something like Searx.

Just remove it. Refocus on actually useful avenues.

fae All AI tools are already 'removed' by default. AI is there to enhance the experience for people who want that but we are not betting our horse on it. Kagi works perfectly fine without any AI tools enabled, like it does without JavaScript enabled.

I find AI very useful, especially if you don't know how to call certain terms, or give you starting points for regular search. If you personally don't like it, you can disable instant answers and choose not use the AI features.

You can disable instant answers in settings under Search > More Search Settings

The Kagi team has been pretty clear that AI will not be used to replace search but as an optional way to augment it in a closed, defined context (see Kagi's approach to AI in search). Personally, I find Kagi's thoughtful use and integration of AI to be one of its primary selling features and is often what I cite when recommending the service to others.

I used to have the same opinion until I started using models like Perplexity / Bing Copilot- after months of using them (the free versions), I now use them daily to assist in my searching, researching, learning, fact checking. Like others said, can just ignore it. I would be more worried if Kagi didn't have it - especially now.

I now have Kagi Ultimate because of access to all the different AI models - makes learning about new things, fact checking, etc... a breeze. 😃 And the reason why I love using it with Kagi is because it's private - my data isn't saved and sold for learning (this is a flag you can do with AI as a business).
