Latest Safari extension (2.2.2)

Hi everyone, I just updated the Safari extension (to version 2.2.2) on both my iPad and iPhone and in both cases the integration was broken.

Once upgraded I did a search and instead of using Kagi, Safari used DuckDuckGo (which is/was my previous default before I started using Kagi).

I checked settings and I had to fiddle a little bit, until I finally noticed this:

This new setting asking which engine you want to redirect FROM is what breaks the user experience. It assumes that people have Google as default, which in my case is wrong.

Once I selected DuckDuckGo from the list, all the searches on Safari were being correctly redirected to Kagi, as expected.

This is clearly a bug.

After updating the extension I expect Kagi integration to keep working as usual. How can user know that an action is required?

Please make sure that 'Engine to redirect' in extension settings is set to the search engine that is set as default in Safari.

The extension does not know what search engine is set as default in Safari. We went with most common option. Sorry it has been a bumpy ride. But this change should solve last bit of being able to redirect from Kagi to another search engine as needed.

All of a sudden this morning my searches stopped going to Kagi and started going to the default search engine. I checked, and the extension had auto-updated behind the scenes this morning.

I have tried everything I have done in the past, made sure it wasn't disabled, restarted Safari etc.

Sometimes it works, if I type "ai " in the search bar, sometimes it will say "Search Kagi", but most of the time says "Search DuckDuckGo" (which is what is set to my default in Safari).

Can you please revert this extension... the last version worked perfect.

so you can close it. The extension update reset the "Engine to redirect" setting.

FWIW I just updated on iOS and iPadOS. When I went to Safari and tested a search, the search went to Yahoo (my default Safari search engine), but when I clicked the Kagi extension in the URL bar, it correctly showed "Yahoo" and not "Google." Once I clicked the Kagi extension, and with no other actions, the updated extension worked fine. I just reloaded the search and it immediately redirected to Kagi as expected.

I had the same experience as @CrunchyFritos on macOS. Settings were already correct (redirect on DDG, DDG as default). However, I had previously removed the Kagi extension icon from my Safari toolbar. Restoring it to the toolbar and opening the settings panel made the extension work again. Strange that it needed that kind of a "refresh" to start working again. Probably a bug?

Same here, Kagi stopped redirecting searches after being updated. I just disabled and reenabled the extension and that fixed it.

I tried disabling and reenabling, but it's still randomly failing for me now. Refreshing usually takes me to Kagi.

Hi, this was unstickied, but this is still an issue for me. Is there any update on the status of this?

randomusername The current extension version is 2.2.3.

It has been confirmed working by users. You should reinstall the extension and set the Engine to redirect to corrseponding search engine in Safari.

If you have issues, please document exactly what they are and how to reproduce if possible.
