I would like to set up the language which will be used to find the information in web and get the answer in a language which was used for question

For example: I would like to ask AI in Spanish and get the answer in Spanish, but I want AI to query the web in English and find international resources, not Spanish. So, it's like when I'm asking the AI it need to translate my query in English and find the info and then respond

It's helpfull because not all people speak well in English and can't write a good question for AI

I think this kind of feature can be in "Assistant" tab at settings

Assistant -> Search language
Assistant -> Response language

Or maybe Assistant can get the language from Region setting which we use for default search

Vlad My native language is Russian and, of course, I can formulate questions in it more precisely than in English (or I need to use translator). But now if I will ask AI in native lang, it will search the "Russian" internet which is often doesn't have correct information or doesn't have it at all. And political articles...

For me it's a not a very big deal, because I can somehow understand English🙂 but I think it will be useful for other users who can't speak English or any other language in which they want to find results. For example, I don't speak French, but I would like to find some trips suggestion from French resources and not Russian/English

Also selecting a preferable language will be helpful for summaries. The provided page to summarization in Russian but result in English

I also want to add that it's useful when looking for content that is often region-locked and won't be discussed outside that country. Or even just content that is popular in one country but not another. For example, Wikipedia may often cite non-Western sources for non-Western people in their respective biographies.

When I use quick answer on German search results it responds in English and I have no way to change that.

Have a setting to specify a language that quick answer uses, or derive it from the search results page language.

Update: It looks like it responds in the language it derives from the prompt input.

Vlad I played a bit with that feature and came to the conclusion that I need it either German or English based on the context of my search. So for me it works best to have "quickly-reachable toggle" to switch between "default language" and "forcible respond in UI language".

Vlad I imagine having a toggle e.g. on the top right corner of the quick answer panel to force it to respond in a certain language. That language could be a set in the Kagi settings.

Look at this: I made a clearly German prompt and it felt back to English. If I could now just press this toggle, it will forcibly respond in German (cause I would have set it).

Summarize produces english output but I would like to have it German by default

Even when you set your language to German in settings and set DE as locale, the Summarizer still outputs English as default. For non English speakers this is an issue. The current workaround is to click "Discuss Further" and then ask it to provide the summary in German.

mullinggroove Oh roger, so the default language for summarizer should be one user specified as their default language in Kagi settings. Good idea!

Vlad That would be great, indeed! A setting to default to en, es, de, fr, etc.
But to make it suit all user requirements, you should probably also add the choice to let the summary language default to the document language.

To me the "document language" option sounds like a sensible default option. Cause there are multiple use cases to me, e.g.

Reading a verbosive news article: Summarize to my native langugage
Reading an article about computer science: Summarize to english (cause it's the domain language of that topic)

If I had such an option, I would pick "Document language" as the default option.
