Get Kagi accepted as a standard iOS search engine

Kagi should be recognised as one of the preselectable search engines available to iOS. I assume someone must be in contact with Apple about this, but I didn’t see an issue tracking it so I made one for anyone else looking.

I know this sucks, is anticompetitive etc, but them’s the breaks.

Kagi should be available as a standard iOS search engine.

This is presumably a very expensive idea,
Apple won't do that for free, no way.

It’s impossible for this to happen without paying Apple an exorbitant amount of cash. Google gives Apple 36% of its ad revenue on Safari so it can remain the default. Other search engines also bid for a spot by paying millions of dollars.

This is simply not feasible for Kagi to do. The legal landscape has been changing recently, which should hopefully open some doors. (See Microsoft’s changes instead the EEA in response to the digital markets act)

And more would have done it already, I’m not sure about Yandex & Baidu though. It could be listed in Russia and Asia already.

Google is not paying Apple to be on the list of search engines, they pay to be the default search engine. The difference is enormous.

Ecosia claims they spend about €300 000 each month on customer acquisition. How much - if any - of that is paid to Apple? Maybe Apple wouldn't want Kagi because it is a paid service, but the requirement can not be millions of dollars.

Vlad sure, I love Orion on the desktop but it’s currently unusably slow for me on iOS (for example, cold starting the app takes at least 10 seconds, often significantly more than that).

I understand you can’t pay to be the default, but there are other options in the settings, including DuckDuckGo which presumably isn’t paying through the nose for that. My guess is that enough activism might even be sufficient.
