Open keyboard automatically on Mobile when opening `kagi.com` or `kagi.com/search`

On Mobile (Android), I created a "Home screen shortcut" for kagi.com. I don't like that when I use it, I need to tap the search bar before the on-screen keyboard opens and I can start typing my query.

Same issue happens when I type kagi.com in the search bar.

I'd like the keyboard to open automatically on Mobile in both of these cases (either as the default or as an option to do so in the Settings), without requiring an extra tap.

Vlad AFAIK no other search engine has this behavior (google, bing, ddg, mojeek, startpage)!!

I think it may go against mobile guidelines, to open the keyboard on page enter. normally the user woud access the search by setting it to be the default search engine then what you search in address bar gets sent to Kagi.

Interestingly, the search bar is automatically in focus and ready to type on desktop. Which is something I'd love to be able to disable. I use Tridactyl, to navigate every page with the keyboard, which makes this annoying as I first have to exit the input field to navigate without a mouse. I suppose I'm a minority here, but a toggle for this would be great.

Thanks for looking into this, and for making the search engine in the first place!

If you think it's a bad default (I have no opinion here), you could always implement it as kagi.com/search?autofocus=true or kagi.com/autofocus. This would work for me at least for the use-case of a home-screen icon.

Or, this could be a setting that's set separately for Desktop and Mobile, so that @Value7609 could disable it on Desktop and I could enable it on Mobile.

It does seem like the other search engines do the opposite of what I want (the difference between mobile and desktop that @Value7609 observed is weird), but I don't think you need to be limit your features by what other search engines do (the defaults might be another story).

I'm not ready to make Kagi my default search engine because, for example, I'm still on 100 intro free searches. But I want it to be convenient when I do want to use it.

Ilya Time is a factor but we tend to listen to our user community and in the case of this forum upvotes. It is a very simple yet effective method for prioritizaiton.
