The Kagi add-on (v3.6) for Firefox for Android no longer allows searching when in private tabs. It's as if the authenticated session for the add-on is not being properly passed to private browsing. Everything was working great until, I believe, the update to the add-on that added the summarizer feature (I believe v3.6, the current version). I've tried various ways to get it to work (reinstall, using different steps to add the session token, etc.), yet it's still broken.
Steps to reproduce:
- Install Firefox for Android Nightly (I think it's still required to use custom add-on collections? Been using it for years, regardless, and never had issues with Kagi before).
- Install the Kagi Firefox add-on (had to make the custom add-on collection to get it to be able to be installed, as the Kagi documentation states).
- Make sure you're logged in to Kagi in normal (non-private) browsing mode and that the Kagi add-on shows that it has properly detected the authenticated Kagi session.
- Open a private browsing tab and try searching. You'll be presented with the Kagi login page, as it doesn't detect/pass the authenticated session from the add-on.
Expected behavior:
Be able to use Kagi search in private browsing without being required to authenticate again.
Debug info:
OS: Android 13 (TQ3C.230605.010.C1) - Pixel Fold
Browser: Firefox for Android - Nightly Builds (currently 119.0a1)
Kagi Firefox Addon: Version 3.6
Kagi Region: US-EAST
Image/Video:
I can create a video if needed, but I feel the steps/behavior described are pretty straightforward.
Temporary Workaround:
I've found a temporary workaround that I've been using. The workaround has been to paste and browse to my session URL, that includes an the authenticated session token, when starting the private session. That will make it work until all private tabs are closed. So if I always leave a private tab open, I'll continue to be able to search with Kagi when opening additional private tabs.
