I remember when I joined Dropbox back in 2009, I was awarded a 250MB bonus whenever one of my invitees signed up. I was just thinking maybe Kagi could do something similar by increasing the search quota whenever an invited user signs up for a paid plan?

Nils We had a good discussion with our community about referrals and at the end decided not to implement them. Getting monetary or any other kind of incentive to invite someone (rather than just because product was good and you wanted to share) went against Kagi's ethos and what we are as a brand. Leaving it open for further discussion.

Hmmm... incentives work, but if this does not align with your brand image then maybe not.

Another idea: what if I could send an invite link to somebody that allows the recipient to do 10 free searches without having to register? To avoid cheating, each account gets a referral quota of, say, 10 referrals per month. The benefit would be that the recepient could test the search right away without the need to sign up. Once the 10 searches are up, he/she needs to register.

Nils That sounds like an interesting idea. So the goal is to have others try Kagi without an account. Sort of a 'magic link'. To prevent abuse we would have to limit its creation which is a bummer.

Where do you think this should be for discoverability and how would you phrase it?

I am not a UI designer, but I guess that an "Invite Friends" or "Gift Link" should be in a place that is visible, for example, top left, like "Feedback Help Invite Settings". Not sure if you guys A/B test, but that would be a good use case for it.

As for the bummer, it depends - Gmail had a total (not monthly) quota of 50 invites back in 2004/2005. Sounds sufficiently high to me. But you could also simply increase the magic link quota again as soon as somebody signs up.
