Earlier today I was about to report what I first thought was a glaring search quality issue until I - for completeness - checked and found that I had pinned the site, meaning it went - in my opinion - from a clear search quality issue to a more understandable edge case.
As I realized this the thought struck me that it could be a good idea to have a visual cue that signaled that the page has been raised or pinned so I decided to write this suggestion.
While writing this suggestion I looked into the suggested similar issue (https://kagifeedback.org/d/434-pinned-site-appearing-as-normal-in-the-globe-without-details-such-as-connection-and-summary) and saw a mention of color but initially forgot about it since it mentioned the (old) globe and since it was also obvious to me that the colors were similar.
Before I submitted however I looked at it once again closely and realized there seemed to be a tiny tiny difference in hue so I used inspect and lo and behold there are different colors, at least there are different color codes:
color: var(--domain-rank-icon-color-normal);
for normal results
color: var(--domain-rank-icon-color-higher);
for higher ranked results and
color: var(--domain-rank-icon-color-booted);
for boosted results (notice probable typo there, booted
instead of boosted
in css variable name. When manually correcting it to domain-rank-icon-color-boosted
I get a markedly different color so I will probably report that as bug as well : - )
Summarized: There seems to be visual indicators that signals a site has been boosted or pinned. But the "raised" signal is next to invisible for me event though I think I see most other colors and the "pinned" signal seems to rely on a misspelled css variable. I suggest a clearer signal that will work even for people like me who doesn't have perfect color vision. Maybe (just suggestions) something like:
- clearer colors (alternatively this can be implemented as a theme in case everyone else loves the current subtle colors?)
- a pin icon for pinned sites, an arrow up for raised sites etc
