Hello. I was comparing Google Search with Kagi, and unfortunately I was unlucky in finding relevant results using double quotes. Example on Google:
filetype:pdf "curriculum vitae" "ireland"
it gives so many results in so many pages (literally 29), and highlights on links summaries the words I was searching for ("curriculum vitae" and "ireland"). On Kagi, the same query:
filetype:pdf "curriculum vitae" "ireland"
gives exactly 11 results, but if I click on "More Results", they add up to 23.
I know that most of the time Google gives unrelated results, but I can assure you the Google results on ALL 29 pages were all relevant (I checked them one by one), since all of the following conditions were respected:
- ONLY PDFs were shown
- ONLY results containing both "curriculum vitae" and "ireland" were shown for an exact words match search (I can see them highlighted in ALL the 29 pages of relevant Google results)
Then I decided to pursue with another test: searching a specific document containing words, specified within double quotes in the query.
"useful" "Apple" "It is crucial that the system tailors" "ireland" filetype:pdf
delivers one result: https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-1926/paper2.pdf
and the same query doesn't deliver any result on Kagi. I don't understand why. Am I misunderstanding the philosophy behind Kagi's "web search quality" or is it just a Kagi's "web search quality" problem?
For me, search quality means delivering 100% of the correct/relevant results that the user/customer was querying, and in that case, Google didn't fail.
I think this is not expected, and there is something wrong in the Kagi's search system itself, not the single, specific search we're talking about. I suggest you to analyze better the following features too (compare them reproducing the same queries on Kagi Searches and Google Searches): wildcards, verbatim search, wildcards within double quotes, wildcards outside of double quotes.
This is just an objective feedback and doesn't absolutely deminish the value of this search engine. I absolutely like the idea, that's why I went pro after discovering Kagi and testing it the same day.
