A concern I have now is how the default search works. Looking up a query defaults to broad geographic searches. On my first few passes, I got a lot of results coming from Texas and California, although I’m in Ohio. As a new user of Kagi, I looked for a button/link that would allow me to specify my location to enhance searches so they’re more applicable to me. But I couldn’t find a way. Also, I thought that maybe it was the result of being on a wifi network that had its origins not close to me. And in fact, Kagi considered me as being in Columbus, Ohio which is a good 150 miles or so from me.
Anyways, it wasn’t until a friendly response from Kagi that I was told there was a geo positioning button in the lower-right of the map shown in the Web search. Sure enough, there it was.
I think that button should be located outside of the map. Up towards the header of the page. Like Google does. As it stands now, if the user even sees the button, they might assume it’s specific to the map when in actuality it affects the entire page.
Another thing that would help is if a similar function is included from the Kagi initial search field. The modal that displays is nice but the dropdown just shows countries. Perhaps a locate-my-position button would be helpful at this initial stage.
Thanks for listening.
