If you create a few custom bangs with the same name and edit them via Search Options > More > Customize..., all but one will be silently deleted.
Steps to reproduce on desktop (Chrome on Windows 10):
- Open Settings > Search > Advanced > Custom bangs.
- Add three custom bangs with the same name and URL shortcut but different triggers. Check all checkboxes for each one.
- Add a few bangs with distinct names to make it easier to see where the identically named bangs are moved.
- Keep the Custom Bangs page open.
- In another tab, navigate to the homepage, open Search Options > More and click Customize...
- Drag the identically named bangs around to different positions in the menu.
- Open each of the identically named bangs as if you are going to edit it and click Back without making any changes.
- Drag the bangs around once again.
- Click Back at the bottom of the menu to exit the Customize... mode and close the browser tab.
- Switch back to the Custom Bangs tab and reload it.
Expected: all bangs should be now in the same order as you have set at Search Options > More > Customize...
Actual result: all but one of the identically named bangs have disappeared.
This is not a minimal test case. I am not sure which actions trigger the deletion of the bangs.
I was naturally inclined to name my bangs exactly the same because they were doing the same thing. I had to create separate copies because adding multiple triggers for one bang is not supported.
I haven’t tried to reproduce this issue on mobile. There’s a related issue where bang settings get overwritten when it is moved in the More menu.
