Data leak with Kagi browser extension?

I use Safari on my Mac, iPod, and iPhone. I use the Kagi extension set my default search engine as DuckDuckGo and have it redirected when I search in the address bar. Sometimes, a DDG page loads with search results, and then the Kagi search results show up. This means that my search data is sent to DuckDuckGo, and is not intercepted by Kagi. Shouldn’t a search be redirected before the data get sent to DuckDuckGo? This means that my data is not as private as it should be, if I’m using the extension in a browser.

This is true, unfortunately, and the only way to fix it would be for Apple to allow Safari to have custom search engines. This is one of the many reasons why we have our own web browser Orion, which I would recommend checking out if you haven't already.

nobodywasishere I've been using Safari for, what, 20 years now? I don't plan to change browsers just because I want to use a different search engine. I applaud you for making a browser, but it's a big ask to expect someone to change one of their key tools.

I will assume that DDG is the least bad option to redirect from, rather than Google or Bing.

k7absp2h Nope, they increased the number of options a few years ago, but it's still limited.

Marking this one as nofix as there's really nothing we can do atm sadly. I can promise however, that Orion is quite good :)

This is yet an important argument as to why Kagi should speedily release a Kagi app for iOS. As kirkmc said, many people do not wish to switch browsers.
