Microsoft has recently introduced a capability in the latest Windows 11 builds (22631.4391 for 23H2 and 26100.2161 for 24H2): the ability to remap the dedicated Copilot key to launch a custom application. Currently, this option allows users to launch an MSIX-packaged and signed app, open Windows Search, or disable the key entirely.
This development presents a unique opportunity for Kagi to become a truly integrated default assistant within the Windows ecosystem. While we can currently set Kagi as our default browser search engine, the ability to directly invoke Kagi Assistant via the Copilot key would be a game-changer for productivity and user experience.
Develop a lightweight, MSIX-packaged Kagi Assistant application for Windows 11 that meets Microsoft's security and integration requirements. This application would allow users to select Kagi Assistant as the default action for the Copilot key within Windows Settings > Personalization > Text input.
Benefits:
- Enhanced User Experience: Provides instant, one-touch access to Kagi Assistant, streamlining information retrieval and task execution.
- Increased Kagi Adoption: Positions Kagi as a premium, deeply integrated solution within the Windows environment, potentially attracting new users seeking alternatives to Microsoft's default offerings.
- Showcase Innovation: Demonstrates Kagi's commitment to cutting-edge technology and user-centric design by embracing new OS-level customization options.
- Competitive Advantage: Differentiates Kagi from other search and assistant services by offering a level of integration currently unavailable.
