Do you have a separate thread open for settings and then an assistant thread? I think the setting only applies when you refresh the page right now in case you already had a tab open

Thibaultmol Not sure what you mean but I don't expect to refresh anything. In other words, suppose I am in a single Assistant tab and playing around with different models in a given thread. Now I am done with that thread and click the [New Thread] button. I expect the [Default Assistant] setting to kick in and set that as my assistant/model for the new thread without any browser refresh.

IIRC we've had complaints in the past about the opposite issue (too aggressive switching back to default). It's really a fine line between when you want it to stay the same and when you want it to switch. Open to suggestions to improve this.

I don't understand the fine line. The default should apply when the New Chat button is used to start a new thread. Within a thread, the Last Used should apply regardless of the default setting.

partlycloudy Sure, but it's also possible someone expects the default only when opening a new Assistant tab, or using a bang like !ai (and therefore just starting a new thread in the same tab to use last used).

My point is that when I am in an Assistant tab and playing around with different prompts and models to refine the response, don't switch out the model under my feet.

The way I am thinking - No matter how a new thread is started (new Assistant tab, bang or New Thread button), the default applies. All other cases, Last Used applies.
