Vlad I'm not actually a developer, so I'm not entirely sure what would be more or less difficult to implement.
One option which wouldn't require an overhaul of the UI would be to allow users to input a string containing query elements rather than a URL — for example, site:kagifeedback.org
, and simply append that to the query.
The search syntax could then be extended to specify the various other query elements which aren't currently supported in the search string, and it would improve this feature as well. Examples:
lens:EDU
selects the lens named “EDU”
time:24h
sets the Time to “Past 24 Hours”
before:2022-10-20
sets the To Date to 10/20/2022
region:us
sets the Region to “United States”
If you want to support those settings in search shorctuts, but don't think it's worth creating search syntax for them (or at least not yet), you could instead use the syntax the URL uses — e.g. specify Past 24 Hours using dr=1
.
