riddley I personally don't think it's necessary to support results ordering or parameters for image & video searches. The GUI seems appropriate for them. But if someone has a use case you could extend this naming scheme.

I also think that all these thoughts are for "web" search.
We have to think in another thread how to trigger image/news/maps/videos search.
However it will be done, I envision that a user will write this method (a bang or whatever), and then the same scheme we are discussing now.
So the search area (web/news/videos/images/maps) will be orthogonal to this syntax, and we'll think later about a specifier.

About ordering: I don't agree here. I think that leave out of the equation only one of the parameters could be confusing and it's not worth.
I agree however that the choices are quite verbose, but I'll do a try.
For the ordering my proposal is:
order / o : default|recency|website|trackers|asc|desc

This is especially tricky: you know that the time format specification is region-dependent (in my country, the proposed syntax is extremely unexpected).
We have to choose a simple, universal, common way; so I think we must rely upon ISO-8601, that dictate:
yyyy-mm-dd

riddley Verbatim could be done in two ways:
verbatim / v : on|off
OR
results / res : verbatim|all
The second is consistent with the GUI but I prefer the first because it's simpler and because region and results both start with "re".

I prefer first too; the second is too phonetically near to "region", and usually every people will use this option voluntary activating the verbatim mode when needed (commonly it's off), so we'll write verbatim:on

I'm not sure exactly what this would look like, but it would be nice to have it be easier to create custom bangs for Kagi search modifiers.

Examples:

!sitename -> gets replaced with site:sitename.com
!lensname -> search using your lensname lens
!verycustomsearch -> set region to Albania, limit dates to 2005–2008, order results by ad/tracker count, and use filetype:ppt

You can work around this by pasting in a Kagi URL, but I feel like it would make sense for this to be simpler/have native support in some way.

Stretch goal: support for stacking multiple shortcuts per query.

For example, you might set things up so that searching for example !t !pdf !edu would search for "example", limited to results from the last 24 hours, filetype:pdf, using the EDU lens.

Vlad I'm not actually a developer, so I'm not entirely sure what would be more or less difficult to implement.

One option which wouldn't require an overhaul of the UI would be to allow users to input a string containing query elements rather than a URL — for example, site:kagifeedback.org, and simply append that to the query.

The search syntax could then be extended to specify the various other query elements which aren't currently supported in the search string, and it would improve this feature as well. Examples:

lens:EDU selects the lens named “EDU”
time:24h sets the Time to “Past 24 Hours”
before:2022-10-20 sets the To Date to 10/20/2022
region:us sets the Region to “United States”

If you want to support those settings in search shorctuts, but don't think it's worth creating search syntax for them (or at least not yet), you could instead use the syntax the URL uses — e.g. specify Past 24 Hours using dr=1.

I'm a DDG user, evaluating Kagi. Personally I use the r:de syntax really often, in this case for setting the search region to de=Germany. Would be really nice if Kagi supported it too!

Hi,

so i created some Quick Bangs to be able to easily set the "Date range" when searching, and this works. For example, the !1 bang limits the date to the past year.

The problem is, i can't combine this Bang with other Bangs. Let's say i want to search site example.com by using the Bang !ex.
It's not possible to search for !ex !1 some_search_query, to get only results of example.com for the last year.

Request:
Would it be possible to add these bangs by default in Kagi, so they can be combined with other Bangs?

This would make it really easy to quickly set the "date range" via the Search field to: last year (!1), last 2 years (!2), last 3 years (!3), etc. without using the mouse...
