Opening source links in kagi assistant response bricks the Android app when nordvpn is enabled

Install Android kagi app
Install nordvpn and enable VPN
Open kagi assistant (from kagi app)
Compose a prompt that searches kagi
In the bottom of the response there are often links to sources/citations
Tap one of the source/citation links
You briefly see that page and then a non-recoverable kagi error:

Note 1: this is reproducible 100% of the time. It can be worked around by temporarily disabling nordvpn which achieves the desired behavior. As soon as nordvpn is on again, we encounter the error state.

Note 2: reached out to nordvpn support and they directed me to kagi support.

Page should open and be browsable
In the event that this error state is encountered, back should return to the response instead of requiring app or phone restart
FWIW, this issue does not manifest with express VPN, just nordvpn from what I've seen.

I personally only have Protonvpn to test and i'm not able to able to reproduce this problem.
Kagi uses GCP for it's hosting and that tends to have issues with vpn's BUT that doesn't explain why the issue specifically happens when you're visiting a non-kagi site 🤔

The pages currently open in the app itself instead of a browser window (bug right now) I'm wondering if this'll get solved when that gets solved

None of the links to the sources used by the assistant to generate an answer are loading for me, anyone else having this issue?

Could you share the specific thread where this happened? and does it happen when you reopen the app and try to go to the same link?
I'm not able to reproduce it. I am noticing from your screenshot that you are using a vpn though, would it be possible to test this without a vpn?

OK it seems like the VPN is causing the issue, I haven't encountered this issue using a VPN before, thanks

I'm having the same bug on Proton VPN, which always happens for all reference links in Assistant. I thought it was a bug with Assistant generally until I found this report. It's also frustrating that in Android, going back from the error page closes the Assistant. I would expect to return to the thread.

With the new Android app, the linked page now very briefly appears before being covered up with the error. It's a very annoying bug that basically makes the Kagi Assistant via Android app useless with ProtonVPN connected.
